We arrived around 9:30 on a Friday morning and the place was empty. We decided to check out the next campground along the 108 corridor, which was Brightman CG, and it was packed so, we headed back and chose campsite #11. Although it is right along the highway, unless it was a group of motorcycles, the road noise was not an issue for us. The campsites are spacious with enough room in between sites, have picnic tables and fire rings. The vault toilets were very clean and had plenty of supplies. Even though we brought water I did check a spigot and it did not produce any water. There were plenty of garbage bins and were empty when we arrived. It appeared that the sites have not had any official work done to them in a while, kind of overgrown with weeds. The backup spots, while lengthy are very, very narrow and lined with big boulders, makes for a challenging backup. This campground feels a bit like the “overflow” place, where people end up when they can’t find anywhere else. After a while more people showed up and it got full pretty quick. No camp host but luckily everyone was pretty respectful and showed good camp etiquette. While you can hear the Stanislaus River you are situated quite a bit above it, but there is a well-worn path down to the water from site #14 that ends in a nice sandy beach area. It got super windy every afternoon around 11:00 so make sure you have everything really tied down and secure. No cell phone signal at all from T-Mobile or Verizon, although we were able to get a few bars on Sirius XM to listen to a baseball game.
dfoster would stay here again
