Boulder Bluff Area

So the site itself was fine- surprisingly pretty full campground for a Sunday. We were confused by the equestrian area signs but we eventually figured out that you have to drive through them to get to the tent only sites. Sites had grills and prep table. Flat enough for a tent. We were unlucky because we were hit by a storm and our tent was unable to withstand the winds so we had to pack it up and sleep in the car.

But our main draw to the site was their advertisement of a shower- a rare find for dispersed campers. So we paid the steep additional fees (camping is advertised as $10, but then you have transaction fees of $3 and parking fees of $5). Excited for our first shower in a hot minute our standards were low. But the cleanliness standards these showers were held to managed to be even lower. I wouldn’t be surprised if animals were living in the bathroom. No curtains, no privacy, showerheads were placed at chest/neck level- some were not even heads, just a single faucet (like you would find on a sink). Thank god for shower shoes because the floor was more dirt and dead grass matter than actual flooring. If the shining twins were in one of the toilet stalls with no door, honestly wouldn’t even bat an eye. Gotta give credit where credit is due though- it looked like the roof was a great home for the insect and sparrow families living there!

The campground was great for traveling with horses. The corrals were sturdy welded metal, the site had hookups for power and water, as well as a water spicket. There was a picnic table and fire pit, and all of the sites are across from the lake.
