Spent two weeks this time. Park was never full, four nights we were the only ones in the park. Sites 13,14 & 15 get decent sun for solar equipped campers. Saw eagles twice.

Large level site. 2-3 other campers during the week, full on week ends. Only noise was generators & radios, all quiet by 10 pm. Verizon service was hit and miss. No tv reception.

The goal was to take 4 days to explore LBL starting Memorial Day Monday - 2 days in the south of the park and 2 in the north. Thanks to the prior review this seemed like a convenient place to start. With the South Welcome Station right at the intersection for the road to Boswell, it was a cinch to get a water fill (and a dump when leaving). A very kind ranger suggested the large detailed map (waterproof too!) for $15 which was totally worth it for a newbie. My neighbor said the campground was packed for the holiday weekend but for two nights it was only the 2 of us besides a few daytime visitors.
The 5-mile road to the campground is totally smooth and paved, just an occasional low branch. Many of the sites are on the water. Seems like some leveling would be required for just about all sites. Sites 1 & 2 are in the woods on the right just as you enter, then the loop to the boat ramp and sites 3-6 (not every site has a number which is a bit odd). Continue to the left for the remaining sites. Sites 12-15 are long with plenty of room to maneuver if backing up with a longer rig, and good sun. Site 19 (my guess as it is unnumbered, but on a rise next to the vault) while in the middle of everything, is elevated and an easy backup for a longer rig. It also gets sun if solar is of interest.
The water is right there for your paddling pleasure as well as the boat ramp. The Fort Henry Trail system has trailhead #24 between sites 1 & 2 and which is great for hiking and moderately strenuous biking. The Fort itself is interesting and worth checking out though most of it is underwater. All-in-all, there is water, hiking/biking, history, cemeteries, wildlife, and lots to see even with the area partially shutdown.
The only reason this wasn't a 5 star for me was the nearly complete lack of cell signal, one bar if anything on AT&T and T-Mobile. If you walked to the water perhaps a few more bars showed up but it was still painfully slow.

We were looking to boondock at Land Between the Lakes, and from the south entrance in KY, this was certainly an excellent choice. There are many, many options for camping here, including developed campgrounds with hookups, back country ( what we chose) self-service fee, or dispersed. Boswell landing was 10-15 minutes from the main road South, and passed the welcome center which has water, a dump station, nice restrooms, and helpful staff. For back country camping, you can purchase a 3 day pass for $7 or an annual camping pass for $30, per person. The campground area had clearly marked, mostly level gravel sites with picnic tables, fire rings, and a vault toilet. All right on a peninsula, so we had a waterfront view on three sides. Piney campground is nearby if you need laundry or a quick recharge night with hookups. Lots of good hiking nearby. Drive up a ways to see the golden pond planetarium and the elk and bison Safari 😄
