Bog Springs Campground

Very clean campground with only a few spots, so get there early.

- $10 with an Annual "America the Beautiful" pass.
- Water is available at the sites, however, they are quite a distance so a 25' hose will not do. Either get 50' or be prepared to fill up water bottles and lug them back to your rig.
- Private shaded sites.
- No dump station.
- Plenty of hiking trails from the campground that take you to the various springs in the area.
- Level, paved RV sites.
- Saw a UFO!
- Madera Canyon is a popular picnicking spot, and we did observe some using the campsites for this purpose and not actually camping.

Really nice camp site. Backed in a 24 foot travel trailer with full size F-250. Pad was asphalt. Used 3 inches of leveling blocks on one side of trailer due to a slight slope across the width of the pad. There is water on the site that could be hooked up to trailer if desired. No electric or sewer. Excellent 5G T-Mobile connection. Bear boxes on site with picnic tables. Wildlife does travel through the campgrounds. Deer, turkey and Coati observed. Many birds seen -- woodpeckers hummingbirds, Mexican jays, wrens, nut hatches, etc. Clean pit house nearby. No shower facilities.

We were in site 2 with our 24' trailer and couldn't get level. It was kind of a steep site so we ended up a bit nose down and one side was on blocks. It wasn't too bad though and we stayed in this site for our entire stay (11 days). We were visiting family in Green Valley while here and never felt unsafe about leaving the rig all day and into the evening. There are several hiking trails around here but we only did two: Dutch John Spring (very steep with not much for views) and Bog Springs (really nice views). You can also walk down to the Santa Rita Lodge either via trail or on the road and watch all the birds at their many bird feeders.
We were able to reach our 25' hose from the spigot in the site to our water tank to fill directly, although it was a barely reached.
There is no dump site here and the sites are mostly all very shaded so we had to rely exclusively on our ground deploy solar as the sun couldn't hit our roof-top panels. Generators are allowed during certain hours.
We did see some longer trailers and a larger class A but in general with the steep sites this campground is better suited for small to medium sized rigs. Site 1 and the two near the bathroom can fit longer rigs (and site 7 is the most level and really long, but not sure about access for a long rig).
We got 1/2 off the rate with our national parks pass (normally $20/night). There are camp hosts here and pit toilets. We saw small deer almost daily walking through the sites.
Cell service was mostly workable on AT&T but it would occasionally give us trouble. Nothing that would keep us from returning again during the work week.
Overall a nice and peaceful stay.

I’ve stayed at this campground a few times. It’s a cute little campground with pretty trees, wildlife and great hikes in the surrounding areas. The unfortunate thing is that the other campers were loud and not too savory characters. There are water spigots at most sites and bear boxes too. I had decent cell reception from Verizon and T-Mobile.
You’ll definitely see deer and wild turkeys here. Bring your national parks pass if you want to hike in the park, otherwise you’ll have to pay to park at the trailheads even if you’ve paid for camping.

The campsite is in a gorgeous location, a forest above the desert. The climb up the hill on the main road is not too steep, but the winding road up to the site is a little tight in two spots. There are several sites that are level enough for RVs/trailers, some not so much. Despite what the description says, all the sites are paved. The campground is quiet, and the sites are surprisingly visually separated from each other, despite being so close. There are views of the Mt Wrightson, some of the valley below, and camping among the trees with the desert all around is a treat.

They take cash & checks only, so make sure you have either before heading up the hill.

First off, there are about 3 sites that are double sites that I think can fit up to 28' travel trailers with tow vehicle. We stayed in site 7 which is on a corner so a little harder to pull into if you had a longer vehicle but it was a great site. If you like to use the picnic table and fire pit, it is a little awkward because you have to walk down the driveway to get down to the lower level area for that, but wasn't a big deal for us.

I think there were 6 other sites that could handle camper vans, tents, truck campers, shorter TT's, and smaller motorhomes. The other 4-8 sites were for tents only.

Most sites had bear-box garbages and water spigots. There was one vault toilet for men and women (with no lights so bring a flash light at night ;) )

We stayed here 4 nights and loved the whole experience. We walked the loop almost every night and enjoyed the night skies.

I thought the road in wasn't bad at all. It was a narrow two-lane road off the main road up to it and maybe a 1.5 lane road on some corners but traffic was very low there.

Plenty of hiking trails there

With what we affectionately refer to as our "Geezer Pass" (aka America the Beautiful Senior Pass), the fee is only $5. What a great deal for a beautifully located campground! No hookups of any kind, but there are (OK) pit toilets in the "restrooms" that will suffice. Water is available at a couple of locations from a spigot.
Except for the fact that you have to just get there early and get in (no reservations can be made in advance), we loved this little campground! Arrive mid-morning and you can make a loop around the campground and check the "in-&-out" dates, maybe talk to other campers, and grab a site for the night (or more). The sites are not very level, so be prepared with blocks if you need a level RV. We were in Site #2 (we think), and we had to use several blocks, but it was worth it for the views and the birds. We hiked two pretty tough trails (your choice is steep at the start or steep at the end) on two mornings, and saw the Elegant Trogan in the picnic area not far from the trail start. Also caught a glimpse of him near our site. Beautiful views, not many hikiers around. We loved this place and will be back the next time we're in the area.
Warning: It can be VERY windy at the higher sites where we were. Never were able to put out our awnings.

We went to check this place out before attempting in our MH, so glad we did. There is one spot we could get into with our 40 ft rig and it’s site #7. Only problem with this site is you have to hike around the built up site to get to the picnic table, fire rig etc. but if you don’t mind that it’s a great spot. There are bear food boxes @ each site as well as bear trash at EVERY site, how cool is that. If you have a smaller rig this place would be ideal, we visited on a Wednesday end of February and almost every site was full. There is no electricity or dump but there is water there and it was on which is amazing since there was snow on the ground. Gorgeous place.

Down the road a little ways is the Whipple Observatory which is amazing. It is owned by Smithsonian & Harvard University. This is great for grownups & kids staring sometime between mid-April to mid-May they have guided tours for the top of the mountain daily that leave around 9am till return around 3pm. Not sure if they provide box lunch or you bring your own, but it is truly a experience not be missed. Don’t know the GPS coordinates but it is on mount Hopkins Road just 30 minutes from green valley.
