Stayed 3 nights (10/17 - 10/20) - best forest service road ever, very smooth! When you reach the info Kiosk, we saw one occupied campsite on the left and drove approximately 0.75 miles past it and didn't see another so turned around. Just to the right of the kiosk, there are another 4 sites. The sites are grouped with one access point per two sites. All sites were spacious and clean. Access to Highlands was about 15-20 minutes. A nice easy hike is Whiteside Mountain National Recreation Trail, about 2 miles round trip with some great views. $3 parking fee.

Would have rated 5 stars if it were more scenic (mountain or river view).

The campground is a little further down the road than where google takes you. There was three sites off one parking area and then a little further down we found our site it didn’t have a number though. We stayed there because there was a tree across the road to go further.
It was a nice site with a picnic table and a tent site and a lantern post and a cleared path down to the cold river.
