Overall Rating

First of all, this is small campground probably better suited for smaller RVs. Second, if you are reserving online beware that many of the sites are on an extreme slop better suited to tents, vans, or really small trailers. Finally, there is a loop of FCFS sites near the boat launch that is an excellent choice for people like us who prefer not to plan months in advance. We arrived on a Sunday to find four of the six FCFS sites open. We took site 18, the pull-thru in the corner, and spent four pleasant nights there.

The only negative was the constant road noise from across the lake. It was most noticeable at night and in the early morning. We could hear the semi trucks using their engine brakes while going down the long hill and it was slightly annoying.

Cell service is spotty here and if you need it for work, a booster would be beneficial. We had good luck boosting our Verizon and AT&T signal although they both cut out and slowed down on occasion

“Great View of Suttle Lake”

Overall Rating

Blue Bay Campground is one of three campgrounds on the south shore of Suttle Lake. The other campgrounds are South Shore and Link Creek. Suttle Lake is approximately 15 miles west of Sisters, OR on Highway 20/126. Suttle Lake Lodge also has hotel-style rooms and rental cabins. In the past, there was a restaurant at Suttle Lake Lodge but a sign at the restaurant said that it is closed indefinitely.

The three campgrounds are National Forest Service campgrounds. There are no hookups, but we did see water faucets and vault toilets around the campground. Most of the sites at Blue Bay have dirt pads, but site 9 was paved. Sites 2, 5, 7 and 8 have lake views. We stayed at site 8 which had a perfect lake view from the outside sitting area and through the large rear window in our trailer. Another advantage of site 8 is that there are no neighbors on the door side of the RV, it was very private. There is ample spacing between all of the sites with large trees throughout the campground. Blue Bay campground is approximately 20 to 30 feet above the lake with trail access to the lake. The only negative comment I can make is the road noise from highway 20/126. This is a heavily traveled road which is directly across the lake from the campground. The road noise is not loud, but noticeable.

There is a hiking trail around the lake which is approximately three miles long. There are also two other trail heads near the lodge, Suttle Tie Trail and Lake Creek Trail.

There are some burned areas around the lake as a result of the 2003 B&B Complex Fires.

We had a good signal when using our Straight Talk (Verizon) hotspot with external antenna and amplifier. We did not have a usable AT&T signal.
