“Good for Boondocking ”

Stayed at 34.2952,-112.1674, about 50 yards off FR 259. Fair amount of traffic during the day but settled down at night. Setup at the base of a hill to cut down on the wind. A little chilly in late November, woke up to temps in the upper 30s. I would have stayed longer except for the cold.

Saturday night stay, 5/12/18 GPS 34.2978,-112.1407 We went to the spot on the right (NE) side of Bloody Basin road, but it was pretty trashed, plus there was some soft sand. So we decided to go back a bit and camped on the side road going SW. Fairly level, big, clean, and there was a fire ring of rocks. There were other sites al... more

“Or a shotgun bang, what’s up with that thang?”

Reviewed Apr 15, 2018

Overall Rating

Mid-April and purple cacti flowers dot the juniper and creosote hillsides, the more distant mountains fading off into the haze of Arizona’s rising springtime heat. And shotgun shells, lots and lots. We collect as many as we can find with plans to make Christmas lights out of them. Likely they’ll just get tossed in a proper trash can in... more

“Good place to park ”

Reviewed Feb 11, 2018

Overall Rating

Stayed on the east side at a site about 2 miles down from the info kiosk. Quite a bit of 4x4/ohv traffic during daylight on a Sunday, to be expected.

Road was in good shape, just go slow as it’s washboards.

We’re in a 37’ moho with tow car.

Easy access off hwy 17. Many sites on the east and west side of hwy, although, we couldn't make it to the sight we wanted on the east side, because our 42ft rig couldn't handle the steep wash in the road. Our friends in a 30 ft RV did fine. So we turned around and went to the West side. Dirt roads are nicely maintained and heavily u... more
