Great place off the beaten path and tends to have space available when the nearby lakeshore campsite does not. Keep in mind that the fee is now $20 for all Michigan State Forest campgrounds. Sites are well spaced and all campers have been respectful of the times that I have been here. Great place for people that want to fish right by their campsite and bring along their pontoon or a fishing boat.

“Situated on the shore of a dammed flowage.”

Has about 15 sites in two loops. The right loop is has an easy view of the Dead Sucker Flowage and is better suited to RVs. My site was not absolutely level but that was remedied with plastic blocks. Approaching from the west from Grand Marais, County Road 407 is sand and gravel and has places where is is severely washborading. Do not hurry. The approach from the east is paved up to Muskellunge State Park so the road is sand for only a few miles. The entry road is an un-engineered two-track sand road that follows the terrain for about a half-mile but my 90's era Class A with dinghy tow made it with no special effort.
The campground includes a boat launch and a looped hiking trail out to Lake Superior.
