“You'll camp here because you want a different experience. Rugged, no scenic view, but alone in the trees. ”

The state park is a 'historic ' state park, classified differently than other Alabama state parks. You go there for the history lessons.

Visited this in May 2018.
The RV sites are bulldozed out of a hillside - each is isolated from another-you may never see your neighbors at some RV sites. ( We could only hear others thru the woods.)
Electric and water and sewer is at your site. No washroom, restroom, except to drive a mile to the tent camping area where there is a facility and shower.
Good seafood places to eat within 5 miles.

“Great State Park Style Experience”

Reviewed May 05, 2018

Overall Rating

If you enjoy nature and state parks, this is a great place to stay. Many miles of trails, a boardwalk across swampy and bay water, civil war trivia and the remnants of a long long town. The employees are all extremely friendly and helpful and even went an extra mile to help us with a problem we had. The site we stayed at wasn't very level and the roads caused a little trouble for our tow dolly due to the hills but it wasn't anything that would stop us from staying again.

There are several grocery stores about 5 miles away, as well as a Bass Pro shop with an amazing restaurant. The front office sells local honey.
