Blackwater River State Park

The park is quite lovely. Site was clean and quite large. No buffer or trees between sites 1,2,3(our spot,)4, and 5. Choose a different site if possible. Bathrooms very clean. The group in site 5 played music that the entire campsite could hear and talked loudly until midnight. Several campers screamed at them to turn off their “ damn” music! We stayed out of it. Though I think a polite request to quiet down might have had a more desired effect.

Site 11 is a large site and level. It looked like all of the sites were level but some were on the small side. Park is well kept. We would have liked to explore the trails more than we did however the weather prevented us from doing so. The park has beautiful white sandy beached on the Blackwater River. Enjoyed our visit very much and look forward to returning. There is an airport nearby that does helicopter training so we had helicopters flying over the park during the day except on the day that was raining. Very quiet at night. There were a lot of deer and birds. We had weak Verizon cell service.

I was a customer in one of the cabins here, I was asleep in bed and a cleaning employee decided to come in on me unannounced and did not knock. I’m highly disgusted with my experience, I will not be back. They gave me a whole hour extra to check out which I should have been entitled to a free night or 2 for the inconvenience and was not… please do not stay here.

Peaceful and quiet campsite.
Arrival was easy-they had left a voicemail message that if no one was in the office when we arrived to just go to our site and check back in later. The site itself felt secluded from neighbors due to vegetation. Clean and well maintained. The hiking trail and the river are close by. Dog friendly. We had a blast.

We had a lovely experience here with everything but one female park ranger, why it's only 4 stars. She questioned my disability paperwork, I assume because I was younger. We had picked spot #8 because I was disabled and it was closer to the bathrooms. We decided to stay an extra night because of a storm and they moved us for three nights instead of just one. It was a big and beautiful spot but not secluded, not near bathrooms, we had very loud neighbors. I definitely recommend spot 7,8,9 that are more secluded. Everything else was great, good signals, bathhouses were older but nice. Stan the camp host while we were here did a wonderful job. You can't beat the short trail down to the rivers edge. Will be back!
