We had a question for the camp host and could not get ahold of anyone. The camp host was not on premises for the 2 days we were there. There is no cell service, so hope their won't be an emergency. We attempted to contact someone and was unsuccessful.

We took our chances and went for one their walk up spots instead of reserving. we had luck there was one spot left. The campground is at the end of a short and well maintained dirt road. The sites are a good size with fire pits and tables and wonderful views of the river. If you're going to do walk-up it's only cash or cheque. There are also other campgrounds very close by. There are two boat launches and a few slips for day use. The water was calm and we went for a peaceful sunset paddle on our paddle boards right off our site!. We highly recommend this place!
RVers: there are electrical spots and the dumping station is at the entrance of the park.

We arrived at the Black Sandy State Park campground to a “Full” sign. Don’t let this stop you from checking out the campground though. Montana State Parks allow “single night” camping in reserve-able but non-reserved spots. We lucked out and found about 5 sites marked as available for a single night.
Most sites were large enough for a moderate size RV.
The campground sits right on the water and has a public boat launch, so it is a great place to camp while boating. The campground also has a small swim beach.
The campsites are right along the water’s edge with direct access to boat docks and the swim beach.
While the water is the campgrounds biggest positive, the close quarters is the biggest negative. The campsites are the size of large parking spaces and are one next to the other. There is no privacy.
The campground has a centrally located main building containing flush toilets. Along the outer edges of the campground near the tent parking there is also a pit toilet. Both bathrooms were clean and we did not experience any morning wait times.
There is very spotty Verizon cell service. We were able to intermittently send and receive texts, but it took some wandering around the campground to get enough signal to do so.
Google maps directed us to the campground without any issues. There is about 8 miles of well-maintained dirt roads along the way.

“Beautiful lake front sites with boat slips and a grassy beach”

The price is a bit expensive but it's because all sites seem to have electric hookups. That's also the non-Montana resident price. But, sites are right on the water for pretty sunsets and a family friendly environment right near a grassy shallow beach. Folks were out fishing and doing whatever you do on a pontoon boat. Nice spot.
