Very difficult to find national forest campgrounds open in the winter. Bitterbrush has beautiful views up the valley to the snow-capped peaks. Campground is along a creek, the vault toilets were open and reasonably clean. There is no water available in the off-season but on the plus side it was free. :-) About 12 mi west of Bishop ... more

Campground is along a creek, the vault toilets were open and reasonably clean. There is no water available in the off-season but on the plus side it was free. :-)
About 12 mi west of Bishop so an easy drive into town. No Verizon service.
I stayed four nights; only had a couple other campers there during that time.

Came to Bitterbrush after a failed attempt at Pleasure Valley Campground. The location and views are great. Sites are mostly level. Some will fit bigger RVs, but I would not take anything larger than 35ft. Good location to do some local sightseeing. No water for RVs. Will need to fill up in town. Came to Bitterbrush after a failed attempt at Pleasure Valley Campground. The location and views are great. Sites are mostly level. Some will fit bigger RVs, but I would not take anything larger than 35ft. Good location to do some local sightseeing. No water for RVs. Will need to fill up in town. The Arco Station in Bishop had water and sewer dump available.
