This is a keeper!
There was a blow down a few years back. Most sites get a good deal of sunlight. The shrubs have grown back so there is privacy between sites Site 10 was one of the best for both our solar panels and Starlink
Fred would stay here again

Birch Grove Campground is a National Forest campground in northern Wisconsin. This is a very remote and secluded campground, roughly 10 – 20 miles away from the closest towns of Washburn or Ashland.
Although there are no services in the campground (primitive camping), several of the sites seem like the would be good for solar. There are two vault toilets located in either end of the campground and there is a hand-pump for water. The sites vary in size but very large rigs may have trouble finding a spot.
Be prepared for a journey to get there. Rough dirt roads and hills make for difficult travel.

We camped here for one night in late July of 2022. We were at a small town campground elsewhere and weren't real happy with it, so randomly selected this for a night (had reservations elsewhere for the next night) and were really happy with it! Dry camping, but does have dumpsters and I believe a hand water pump & pit toilets (didn't use). First come / first served. We pulled in and saw that site 5 was open - nice, long & level pull thru (great to not disconnect if only there for a night). Surprised as there were actually a lot of sites taken on a Thursday night.
Two small lakes surround the campground - kayak launches (didn't use) and nice foliage between the sites. We saw & picked wild blueberries along the road - so cool! Also we had a huge field of wild flowers in front of us - incredible stars, but not a super dark sky.
We would definitely stay here again - would be nice for a longer stay and a paddle on the lakes.
Relatively long gravel roads getting to the CG - we were towing our Imagine 17MKE, but all good!
Our price reflects the senior discount.

This place is great for grandkids! They were able to fish, swim, kayak! We did get our water from the artesian well at Thompson's West end Park in Washburn. The sites were missing a lot of tree's, a major storm did come through a few years back and changed things. The only downside was 2 campsites decided that it was okay to run there generator all night and have cars coming and going from their site. They were not to pleased in the morning when the families that had children , let said children run and make noise and did not care what the sites had to say. The only other thing that we noticed that there was no Park Ranger to be found while there.
We will be going back next summer with our grandkids!

Nice campgrounds by 2 lakes. It’s a dirt road getting there. Self pay at the box. Has vaulted toilets and well water. Mosquitos got a little bad but expected by the water. Each site had a fire pit with a grate.

I stayed at a nearby Airbnb in Herbester, but wanted to check out some of the National Forest Campgrounds for future use.
Beautiful, but closed for all of 2017 and 2018 as well. Built between two lakes, Birch Grove Campground is in an amazingly beautiful location, with water views from nearly every campsite, but it was ravaged by a storm in late summer of 2016 and, at the time of my visit, (September 25, 2017) it is still closed. The downed trees have been removed and I did a little online checking and found that plans are afoot to redesign the campground and reopen it, but no time table has been published. I cannot imagine that it will be open in 2018 because other than removing downed trees, work has not yet begun.
The sites were spacious and well spaced, but they may well change prior to the reopening of this campground.
Brad would stay here again
