“Easy To find With Nice Big Spots ”

GPS brings you right to the Dispersed camp sites. Road can be very muddy during rainy weather but otherwise good. Just 2 miles off the main road. Be aware that overnight camping is only allowed here between September and December. Nice valley with great view

Popped in for an overnight between Ouray and Montrose. Large spots, great star gazing, no facilities. Easy pull-ins off the road, Sign said open September-December only. This site was well before gps coordinates Identified here.

The first morning we were there a ranger knocked on the door and asked if I had a hunting or fishing license. Apparently, Colorado passed a law in July requiring campers to have a hunting or fishing license in order to stay in state wildlife areas. She was understanding and let me go with the promise that I would go to Walmart and purchase a license.
There are only three sites here. Site #2 was the best and had the best AT&T internet/cell phone. Cell phone coverage depended on the site. AT&T had 1 bar at site #3. If you have allergies, be aware that there is a lot of ragweed here so you may not want to stay here when that is in bloom. Camping is only allowed September 1 and after.

Clean and spacious spots off the beaten path and oh so nice and quiet. However, they’re limited. Overnight camping allowed only where marked (I’ve attached a photo of the signs at each spot.) and only open Sept to Nov.
Beautiful mountains in every direction.
We drove in two miles. Road is gravel and well maintained.

There are some turnouts outside the boundary line that are beautiful, remote, and nice to stay at. If you’re coming from 550, take a right at the fork when you arrive at the destination provided by this app and continue on CO Rd. 2 for another half mile or so. There’s a great turnout just past the cattle grate. Happy camping!

“July 2018 - Closed for camping”
Reviewed 7/11/2018
Just a heads up. I went here on July 11, 2018, and found the area was closed to camping. All the campsites were taped off. If this was because of the high fire risk, it will probably remain closed for some time. It will be a beautiful place to camp when it's open again.

We scouted this area for a potential stay and if we'd had a functioning cell booster, may have stayed! There was one bar 3g Verizon (no At&T) so with a booster it might have been good enough for email and phone calls. We were mid-work week so this was a no go for us this time around but we will be back. There are a few pull off's on the road in and three large area's to boondock. The third one is at the GPS coordinates and is definitely the best spot with some trees (not to park under) and potentially a creek.
