This campsite is out of the way. The road to it is a seven mile gravel deal; in a half ton pickup I did not have to use four wheel drive once.
The campsite is nice but poorly maintained. The only amenity is a chemical toilet. The sites, of which there were about a dozen, were littered with trash. I spent an hour cleaning up all the plastic and crap from mine and the neighboring sites.
The four sites bordering the creek were decent, but for tent camping the one in the far corner was the only good one; it rained my second day there, and I found most of the gravel tent pads to be sitting in pools of water.
I camped out of my truck and was fine. Cell signal is an absolute minimum. I could get a text message out, but any kind of data was out of the question. The bugs (midsummer) we're not bad. Gnats and flies were the most common. The occasional mosquito was there, but they were not a nuisance.
If you do not require amenities, this campsite is great. I was there two weekday nights, and there was only one other camper. There is a small colony of bats living by the creek; go to the water at dusk and they'll fly around you. The road there is manageable with minimal ground clearance; just be aware there are sections with jutting stone. I saw multiple cruiser-style motorcycles on the road; if you are attentive and not in a lowrider or a big rig, you should not have any issues reaching Lost Creek.

It’s located pretty far off the beaten path and is no longer a paid site campground. It receives minimal upkeep mainly due to its distance. Maybe why they let it go as a paid site with full maintenance. It has a dry restroom with separate men’s and women’s sides. It has several walking trails that intercept nearby. The creek there is crystal clear and you are miles away from the hustle and bustle. The forest growth is picturesque. There is a trail / old road that goes well beyond the campground and some venture there to camp also. As beautiful as this place is, it’s well known for venomous snakes namely copperheads. We saw one about dusk near the road that loops through the sites. Please do not let children wander barefoot during anytime that visibility is questionable. That said, just use common sense precaution during your visit. This campground is a must for anyone who wants peaceful nature at its best in the Appalachians.
