“The rough road was worth it”
I'll be honest: the road to get up to Big John Flat is rather scary. It's 3 miles off of Hwy 153 (just east of Beaver, UT) and it takes about 25 minutes to travel it because it's rocky and not very smooth from small washes. In addition, when you pass another rig coming the other direction you feel like you might go off the edge. But clearly I'm still here so we made it! And honestly, it was worth it and we'd go back because when you get to the top the meadow and the views are just stunning. There are dispersed camping spots all around the meadow nestled in the trees, in addition there's nothing stopping you from just pulling into the meadow itself. It's so peaceful and quiet and there are some excellent stargazing opportunities.
Our spot was quite level and we had some neighbors about 100 feet away but we each faced a different direction so it wasn't an issue at all.
One downside: there are cows that can graze through the meadow so there are cow patties all around and they do attract flies.
AudreyAirstream would stay here again
