Beautiful place! Fresh water coming down the stream, I was able to bag some, boil it and have a little shower/bath. There’s a couple spots along the creek before you get to the campground. There’s also lots of spots after the campground along the road for tent/car camping. There’s signs telling you when a trailer may not be suited any further. Right after the campground the creek does cross the road several times, it may cause lower vehicles & trailers to bottom out/drag so be aware. Other than that there weren’t many other campers over the weekend. Cell service varies. Dispersed camping spots could use a little cleaning.

Big Creek Campground is located on the western edge of the northern Toiyabe Mountain Range. It is a wide open campground without much benefit of shade trees. The campsites are attractively bordered by small boulders. Good spacing between campsites, but few to no trees or bushes if you need privacy. Their are picnic tables and fire rings and clean, TP supplied vault toilet restrooms. It is in a pretty setting going into Big Creek Canyon. The creek is shallow, but we did see some brown trout in the creek. There are several sites and group sites that could accommodate larger rigs.
If you have a high clearance 4 wheel drive vehicle, you can continue up the canyon road to explore the beautiful mountains and long big sky views after reaching the crest of the range, the road goes down into Kingston Canyon. DO NOT attempt to take a trailer on this road. Have fun exploring!

It was Labor Day weekend, so we got there on a Thursday evening to make sure we had a spot.
There were several ATV’s and trailers around for the long holiday weekend, but it was still so quiet - especially at night.
The few folks we did talk with were friendly and courteous.
The creek is cold and refreshing, knee deep in some spots.
No trash cans, so pack in and pack out.
The restrooms were exceptionally clean.
Definitely worth the drive!

Nice little spot. On a Thursday night in July nobody there other than us. Creek is accessible and good to play in for little kids as well as to refresh and soak feet.

Nice canyon with a small creek a few miles south of Austin on a good dirt road. Pit toilets and a few campsites with plenty of open area around the actual campground to set up camp. The campground itself is small and the access road is narrow, so we haven't taken the trailer when we camp here. We have used a tent or just slept in the back of the truck along the creek. Just about any vehicle should be able to get to the campground, but if you are planning on going further up the canyon or over the top to Kingston I would recommend a vehicle with more clearance. The area seems to be popular, especially on the weekends in the summer. Very spotty cell service in campground.
