Great location for staying while volunteering for the 100AW race. Campground is "operated" by USFS so no water, electric or sewer hookups. However, all is paved (even county road from main highway is paved) & was in good condition while I stayed. Less is more, I believe the campground is more intended for those traveling along the Ozark Trail to tent camp. No campfire wood for sale, etc & very little Verizon cell service.
A word of warning... Lock up & don't leave out valuables. I had someone try to steal my battery setup. Luckily, I was pulling up as they were carrying box to their truck. If it's not yours, leave it alone. I.E., someone left their wireless speaker at the site I stayed at... I left it there in case the owner comes back later for it.
Potosi is a nearby town ~20 minute drive. All the amenities you would need located there.

Multiple awesome trails close by and dog friendly. The area was very quiet, only one other camper that left after our first night. There is absolutely NO Verizon cell service, and one bar of spotty AT&T service. Overall we had a great experience and would definitely come back!

This area is primarily used as a hiking trailhead. The area was full of tent campers. We proceeded down the road and found a small horseshoe pull-out that I could fit my trailer into. Bring plenty of bug spray the area is loaded with ticks. I would not consider this an area to overnight with an RV or trailer.

Great spot in Mark Twain National Forest. We camped in our 33 ft travel trailer and had plenty of room. Sites have picnic tables and fire rings. The road in is paved, as is the campground so that was great for the kids and their bikes. No water, no dump station, no electric. Only vault toilets which were clean. We had very poor service (Verizon), and even our cell booster did not help. So plan accordingly. About 8 or 9 spots, and they filled up over the weekend so make sure to arrive early.

Regular boondockers - 32 ft Camper. Family of four. The campground is easy to access - right off the road. The sites are paved and feel like a standard camping set up. The largest rig you would want to fit would be about 40 ft. That would be tight but we still had some space after parking our fifth wheel. We stay Sun-Wed in April and only a few people came and went.
Sites: not too close together, but not private. We like our corner spot in the loop, opposite side of the road. They are slightly slanted pavement spots but if you have an auto level set up you should be fine. We used a couple blocks and got level quickly. Some spots are steeper. There are only 8 spots but the campground was empty almost the entire stay. Rubber coated picnic tables. Fire rings. Plenty of flat spots for tents. I imagine this place gets busy in the summer, weekends. The traffic for biking and trails was pretty consistent. There was a little glass around the campsite. Campfire wood was scare.
Cell Service: spotty, but doable. Upload speeds ranged from 2.5mbps-8mbps WITH A BOOSTER (weboost) depending on the site you are in. Less trees = better service. It was fast enough to upload/download and take voice calls, but video calls were tricky. If you don't have a booster I wouldn't plan on working from this site. It's a little too spotty. If you just needed to check in every now and again, you would be okay without a booster. iPhone 11, T-Mobile service. 1 bar and LTE randomly without a booster. 1-2 bars and LTE consistently with a booster. I'd bet Verizon service would be enough to work from.
Activity: mountain biking routes were plentiful. We hiked several hiking trails. They go on for miles. We liked the one across the street from the campground best. No epic views but nice quiet wooded trails. It does look like there was a controlled burn a few months ago so about half the trails are recovering now. Depending on when you come, expect that. Kids could ride around the campground's paved roads.
We did not use the facilities. No water, dump, electric, or trash. Pack it in, pack it out.
Nice little spot to check out for a while. Too many cool spots out there to say we would return again, but it was a nice place to stop for a while. Can't complain about free :)

This was a beautiful sight to stop for the night. We were expecting to have to rough it but the site was very accommodating. It had a picnic table, lantern hooks, garbage hooks, and a fire ring. The pit toilets were very clean and the area was beautiful. This particular site ties into the Ozark Trail so we were able to enjoy a little bit of Missouri's Beauty before having to continue on our journey. We hope that you decide to stay here and enjoy the beauty this place has to offer!

We came here because we needed to be as close as possible to St Louis for as cheap as possible. An earlier review said there is four bars of 4g. There is not .. I had one bar for about 10 min and it went away. Signal came in and out. It wasn't busy. It was cute. Lots if gnats. We happened to break down while driving around looking for service. And didn't have any service anywhere in the area to call a tow truck. A police eventually drove by and called a tow truck for us. If it wasn't for the no signal and breaking down we would have stayed. However the tow guy didn't feel comfortable leaving us without my husband for whatever that's worth.(From his experiences with the camp site) the main point of this review is don't come here expecting cell signal. We didn't have usable 4g even with the wi boost.
Potosi itself was cute and very friendly. If you're in the area and need a tow. Elliot's towing was great and really took care of us on a holiday weekend, even called a buddy mechanic to help us get back on the road in less than 24 hrs.

Had a nice stay here. Working bathrooms. Tent camped. Frogs kept us up and mosquitos were kind of bad, but it is camping, so can’t really complain. Plus it’s free.
