Arrive before 4 pm for a good spot. Lots of semi level large spots. Beautiful views but windy in early April.

Beautiful view. Stayed a week. Busier weekends but still quiet- dark and beautiful stars at night. Town next door almost completely closes for winter so if you’re staying multiple days in off season BRING GROCERIES or you get gas station goods and a 50mile drive to another general store.

The campground is spacious with lots of spots. There is already a little snow on the mountains to the south, and the red canyon to the north is very eye-catching under the sunlight.

Road in is bumpy. Go slowly. We grabbed a spot on the north edge facing the reef. At the cattle guard go straight. To the right there’s a large dip in the road that might be hard for long rigs. Yes it was crowded on the weekend but cleared out nicely on Sunday. It was quiet even when full. No cell service but clear view of north sky for starlink. It was a great location for proximity to the park and several hiking areas. Really couldn’t get over the view from our camper. Love it soooooo much.
Filling with water: we regretted driving to the park campground to fill. It was super crowded on the weekend at the visitor center which you drive by to get to campground. Also it was tight in the campground dump station for our 36 ft. 5er. We were successful but it was a bit stressful with the crowds and tight spaces.
Groceries: come fully provisioned as there are no major grocery stores nearby. Small town grocer in Loa 15 miles. Full strength beer avail at c store between Torrey and Beas Lewis. No need to go to state liquor store for that as they have poor beer selection.
Laundry: 70 miles away as far as we could find.
Propane fill: about 15 miles in Loa at gas station

Once in the camping area I had 3 bars of 5G. Just watched the Giants/Bills game with a great view of the canyon.
Lots of spots for any size rig. When you cross the cattle guard, the road splits. There is a wash that trailers and larger rigs will likely drag to the right. I’d stay left if in a longer rig. Vans, cars, trucks, short motorhomes could go right with no issues.
It was windy during the night but the stars were abundant. Port-o-Jon’s placed through out the area if needed.

We were able to get into and out of our spot ok, but definitely needed one of us to spot with the bushes/trees. We both work remote and starlink worked great in this location. We also had Verizon cell service. We also used our tmobile 5G gateway wifi, but it wasn’t as good as starlink. Our dogs loved this spot and loved running around. Would come back to again!

We stayed here 6 nights while exploring & hiking Capital Reef NP and the Burr Trail from Boulder, UT. We were in a 21 ft travel trailer facing north, on the edge of the rim overlooking the red rock Calf Canyon. What spectacular views in all directions!
The first 200-300 feet of the entrance road is very fine rust-colored powder this time of year, which caused a dust plume every time someone drove through it over 5mph, so we didn’t want to set up anywhere near this road. The wind kicked up every morning we were there (with some hefty gusts on the rim), however it let up considerably by late morning. We were fine in our travel trailer, but felt sorry for the people in tents. We did not see any noticeable trash, cigarette butts, or broken glass where we camped, or where we walked a one-mile loop from our trailer. Most of the trash & broken glass that others mentioned appeared to be in the area before the cattle guard. Most people were courteous about running their generators for only an hour or two during daylight, and the only noises we heard from other campers were late arrivals looking for a spot. Lots of room to spread out & to accommodate quite a considerable number of campers in all sizes of RVs. We thought it was one of the better boondocking spots & we hope people will continue to respect!
