We booked a site online and selected a site based off the very basic map. The drive up pulling our 28’ Coleman with our Toyota Tundra was unnerving but there were INCREDIBLE views.
The site we had paid for had a huge rock in the middle of what was supposed to be a pull-through site. So, we parked in the adjacent site since we were only there for one night.
We loved how remote the campground was and what we could see of it was beautiful, but we didn’t get time to explore since a thunderstorm moved in as soon as we got parked.
We would not make the trek up the mountain like that again for a single nights stay but don’t regret the experience.

I was disappointed in the place from the very start. The staff at Natrona Co Parks said Beartrap Campground vs Beartrap Park were the same but we found the entrances were on different sides of the road and with some distances in between. Poorly marked sites (number placed on trees) with some missing site markers. The incline to the mountain has a 6% grade and hairpin turns. Our F250 diesel was pulling a 33' fifth wheel and I wasn't sure we would make it (although my husband was more confident than I was). We had a person come up to us later and tell us he was amazed we made it up there as most are tent campers or or people with trailers less than 20'. The campground is beautiful with lots of trees but cars coming and going until 2:00 am stirred up dusty roads constantly. I give this campground a 5-star for scenery but a 1 for access, dustiness and vehicle noise.

I echo what the other reviews said: steep road, sharp turns, campsites are not level, stay away from the road. Pit toilet
In other words, this is the way camping used to be before we all got pampered. Beautiful place, quiet on a Sunday night. I’d come back.

Stayed in site 27. I was along side the main road so heard local traffic. I’d recommend the other side of the meadow.

We’re from the Great Smoky Mountains and this was far steeper than we have pulled a camper on before. Also, pick your lot before you pay. Lot 10 was super unlevel and we almost left because it was nearly impossible to level the rv. If the website gave us the option to switch, we would have. Lots after 14 are bigger and far more level.

Much cooler than Casper since you are 2,000+ ft higher up the mountain. Main road up mountain is pretty steep with one pretty tight turn on the way up. It’s the 3rd hairpin (see a map), where you will be on the inside lane of a tight turn that goes up steeply. 34ft class A pulling Jeep came to a stop, but luckily our diesel pusher had ... more
Much cooler than Casper since you are 2,000+ ft higher up the mountain. Main road up mountain is pretty steep with one pretty tight turn on the way up. It’s the 3rd hairpin (see a map), where you will be on the inside lane of a tight turn that goes up steeply. 34ft class A pulling Jeep came to a stop, but luckily our diesel pusher had the power to get us going again and there was no oncoming traffic. Other hairpins were easier, but it was a constant climb to the top.
Several campgrounds in the area, but this one has the larger sites. Several sites big enough for us and some (including 17) could handle even larger rigs. Half of the sites are very uneven. Sites 14 through 20 are large and more even. Lots of shade everywhere. If you need solar, site 15 is your best bet (large site too).
Dumpsters and vault toilets available. No water on the mountain for campers, not even spigots.
Excellent Verizon service. No problems streaming or doing schoolwork with or without our booster.
Very quiet at night. Dirt roads of campground are part of a public road system to several homes on the mountain, so had some daytime traffic. Some hiking/biking trails around too.
Got there on Sunday Aug 15 (made reservation several days before), but several sites were open and stayed open for the next few days.
Things to do in Casper: National Trails interpretive center was free and very informative.

As of July 2021 it appears you have to register and pay online, rather than self-register onsite. Web address posted on signs as you drive in and Verizon very strong (~50 mbps), so that makes that easy enough. No T-Mobile service. Very, very quiet overnight (on a Sunday). Beautiful cool temperatures as well compared to down in Casper.

This area is heavily used by locals for camping. No problem getting my 28’ fifth wheel into the site. I think you could Park a 34-36’ rig in either site 17 or 18. Both are levelish. Good shade from pine trees. No hookups. 50’ from the roadway so there’s some traffic noise. $10 p night.
