Bear Mountain RV Park

We were here a couple years ago. Since then, this park has changed to mostly full-timers. The garbage hasn't been picked up for a while. The restrooms are pretty gross and the lock on one doesn't work, taking it out of commission. No staff here on Sun and Mon...email them if necessary and pay by honor system in an envelope. All told, a low-end operation that works as an overnighter, but it's nothing more than that.

No trains nearby! Far enough out of town to be quiet & safe.

Brand new owners who are just as friendly, and appear to be more efficient.

Easy in & out, pull-through sites nothing fancy, but full hookups at a reasonable price for an overnight stop. Some trees between sites for shade.

Lots of long-term residents, but overnighters have the last row in the back, separate from them.

Did not use the showers or laundry.

Stayed mid-November. Will stay here again.

This was my first RV park experience but I thought the grounds were really well kept. The park manager came out and met me when I arrived and helped me check in. They don’t have showers right now but the laundry room was clean and working well. All sites are pull-through and many have trees next to them. There is one row for overnight guests but the rest of the park is for long term residents. Everyone was friendly that I encountered and noise was not an issue. You can kind of hear the highway but it’s not disruptive to sleep. I would stay here again if I was in the area.

We had a long drive to Yosemite so decided to break it up into 2 days by stopping in Bakersfield for the night. So glad we did because traffic out of Las Vegas was bad and the drive took way longer than we planned. Bear Mountain has full hookups, level sites, shower facilities, nice landscaping and trees. We spent a quiet night there and were refreshed and ready for our drive. Will stop here again.

Needed a place to hang on our way north in order to attend a memorial service a couple hours away. Bear Mountain was easy to get to and would afford us a quick way to our funeral as well as a quick exit on our way further north. Staff at the front desk was friendly and checked us in quickly. All spots are pull-through, roadways are paved, sites are simple, no-frill crushed rock, spacious enough. No picnic tables or fire pits, but they have a nice picnic area in front of reception with bbq pits and picnic tables. The site was level and clean, hooking up was uncomplicated. It is far enough out of town to not have "neighborhood problems" or transient traffic. It appears to be gated, although we were not given after-hours instructions or a gate code, so I don't think they close the gate.

As far as amenities, there is a laundry room with four washers and four dryers, only three washers worked and only two dryers. But it was cheaper than many other places we've camped. Did not go into the restroom or shower room. There are no other amenities, no pool or cable TV, but the local channels come in well enough. And the wifi works fine. There appears to be a cell tower in the field behind us.Several families with small children are camped here, the roadways are clear enough for youngsters to go bike riding.

The two things most reviews complain about are traffic noise and odors. Yes, there is traffic noise, a steady hum of highway 99 all night. Didn't bother us. And there was a definite manure odor for a while yesterday afternoon. Again, didn't bother us. It's peaceful enough.

FYI - if you are a cyclist, there is 36 miles worth of bicycle trail on the north side of town, about 25 minutes away! Would not have expected that lengthy a trail in Bakersfield! Expecting to enjoy it tomorrow.
