We were in site 8, which happens to be a pull thru but shares some of the driveway with site 9. We are in a 36' class a so we dropped our dolly and toad at the boat ramp parking area so we could pull into the site. To reach the dump station entry, we needed to back out as the entrance is right across from the site. This site has a lovely view of the lake and the activity that goes with it, along with folks headed out on the hiking trails. This site also has a very bright white LED light, like sleeping under a light at a WalMart. There are several of these lights in the boat ramp area too. Our curtains and awning worked fine to block the light. Campground was busy on the weekend (we stayed in early February) but cleared out on Sunday. Friendly hosts, hiking, fishing and kayaking opportunities. We didn't use the facilities, but they are one unit rooms - toilet, sink, shower - and four in each building, two buildings. We got plenty OTA tv stations, and 1-2 bars ATT LTE signal. Sites are close to each other and the loop road is narrow and can be challenging for larger rigs.

Well kept, quiet. Great walking trails. No cell service but we didn't mind that, but gave 4 stars for location for no cell. By Sunday night we were almost the only campers. Restrooms/showers were also clean.

There was a prescribed burn ongoing when we arrived, right up to the very edge of our campsite. Fire personnel were on location, and we weren't in danger, but the smoke and visual was less than appealing. The campsites are oddly laid out, and we had to have the host point us in the right direction. Our stay also happened during hunting season, which translated into some early morning and late-night hunting preparation noise. Our site had a very large, very orange streetlight directly adjacent to our patio side. The reason we chose this CG over the others in the same forest, though, was the access to miles of trails right from our site. The showers were clean, but the water was a single lukewarm stream. We had plenty of good OATV, but absolutely no cell service or internet whatsoever. A 2-mile drive up the road took care of that, if needed. The birdwatching was also great, especially the Purple Martins in their house by the lake.

Camping, great. Camp hosts, great. Facilities, great. Having to deal with Reserve America, VERY bad. I use to stay two or three days a month, now with having to deal with Reserve America, I stay once or twice a year.
Four stars for Noise, is only on the weekend. The rest of the week 5 stars.

Bear Lake is a Florida state forest park. The price is right for what you get. There was only electric and water hookups but the dump station was very close, located right outside the bathrooms. There aren't many sites and it was easy to book a site at the last minute. Our site was listed as a pull through but it wasn't really since another RV was camped in front of us. Also the site was not very level. You can choose a site on the water which is beautiful. You can kayak and fish but no swimming. The sites are very close together so hopefully your neighbors will be more considerate than ours. Most of them were nice but there was one that was having a party and the music was very loud. I understand it was New Years but we wanted to get away from the crazy parties by going camping in a state park. They again were playing their country music first thing in the morning.. I would have preferred the sounds of nature waking me up. Some dogs (and a cat) were off leash as well which made it hard for our dogs to be calm. You can tell that some were locals and go there very often due to their lax in following the rules. As we were leaving and going into the drive for the dump station the car in front of us stopped and the guy just parked and was blocking our access to the dump station so he can use the bathrooms. It was strange since he could have easily just parked in the parking lot instead. Anyway he was pretty rude as I asked him to move his car out of the way so we could move our truck and 31ft airstream into the drive for the dump station..which he was blocking. The bathrooms were very clean and the camp hosts were very kind and checked on us also. They were also doing an early morning New Years hike around the lake which included some black eyed peas. I would try Krul Lake next time we camp in the area since my son can swim in that lake. Really the only thing that soured our experience at Bear Lake was some of the other campers.

Short campers will do fine here, but most sites are short (no idea why the website said our 36' class a would fit), narrow (sites are close to each other and road is not wide, I'm sure would make backing into site difficult), and not level.

“Drive through review”

We stayed at North Hurricane and drove to Bear Lake just to hike around the lake and to check out the campground. The hike was an easy 3 and a half miles. Bear Lake campground seemed nice but we liked North Hurricane better because their sites are further apart from one another.
