Good vistas and quiet location close to Denver. Here to visit family in Lakewood but the park has many outside adventures. RV sites are 50 amp and water and dump facilities are within close range.

We stayed for one night because it was the only place we could find with a shower for under $40. The park is right next to some busy roads but it’s actually very pretty and well maintained. It was relatively quiet considering how busy it looked. Our neighbor was playing ACDC a little loudly this morning but it didn’t last more than 15 minutes and I noticed rangers doing rounds often. The campground is just a big open area, so not a ton of privacy. We stayed in site 16 which is directly next to the bathroom. Bathrooms are very clean. I didn’t even mind the coin operated shower as much as I thought I would because you have a whole room to yourself and the water was hot right away, pressure was great. There are many miles of trails, I wished we could have stayed longer to explore some. We checked availability for the weekend and it’s completely booked so this spot is obviously popular. Our Tmobile service was great. Would gladly stay here again.

A couple of things to note right off before you make a reservation here: 1) The sites are electric only. I think most, if not all, are 50 amp. 2) There are water spouts nearby, but you'll need a long hose if you want to fill from them. There is a water fill station on the opposite side of the campground from the entrance. 3) There are ... more

The place is like an oasis in the middle of the city. The campground is nestled down between knolls, so you don't know you are in the city, unless you look really hard to the south to see a shopping center. It is barely visible as you can see the rooftops at night when their lights are on.
The bike trails are fun to ride. It can be busy in the afternoon and weekends at the nearby lake, which has a nice sandy beach.

With that said, this was a great city park to camp in. The spaces were nice and not too close together, the campground is clean (we peaked into the restrooms - coin operated showers - and they looked very nice) and the park itself is great with wonderful trails for hiking, biking or running and a beach that is well used during the weekends and holidays.
What I liked most about this park is that they had a separate place to fill your water tanks so that you did not have to worry about blocking anyone as you filled your water for the week. They do have water throughout next to certain campsites, but for some reason they do not have the right connections to fill your tanks.
The city park is easy to get to, is close to Red Rocks Park and about 25 minutes from downtown Denver. Although close to a highway, we could not hear the traffic at night.

Friends had recommended we stay here to visit Denver, and we're glad we did. Sites have electric only but there is an RV water fill station so be sure to stop and fill up before pulling into your site. Dump station was fine but the vault toilets were not the best. Some of the sites are very unlevel, and the one we reserved a couple months ahead was unusable for us. The host and ranger were very helpful about trying to find another site for us but they were all booked, so they let us stay in the group area for 4 nights until we got another site.
Most sites are well-spaced and have nice views. There is a bit of traffic noise but it didn't feel like we were that close to a major city. There are paved and dirt trails running through the park for biking and hiking, which we enjoyed, and the location is convenient to Red Rocks Amphitheater and shopping. We also drove 5 miles to Federal Center, the light rail station in Lakewood for a train trip to downtown Denver.
We would definitely stay here again

And it looks to be a very nice day-use area (nice beach, albeit packed, easy access to multiple bike paths) - but I wouldn't come here to get away, as the traffic noise was loud all night, and the view of the Home Depot on the hill is not what I usually go for in a campground. But, that being said, being 10 minutes (tops) drive from Red Rocks when going to see a concert is fantastic - so I'm sure we'll be back. Our site was no hookups, all sun, nice tent pad/picnic table/fire ring. Heads up - be sure to ask for night entry directions, as the main entrance closes in the evening, and you have to take a back way to access your campsite after that point in the evening.

We had a great stay at Bear Creek Lake in late May. This park is located for easy access to area recreation (we enjoyed Red Rocks, Dinosaur Ridge, hiking, Golden Breweries and nearby shopping). If you need to stay near the Denver metro area, this is a great option. We much preferred this over Cherry Creek, which is on the other side of metro Denver.
While the park does attract many locals, the 2-week maximum stay is enforced and we saw no indication of full-time residents. We did find a good mix of RV's, trailers and tenters in the area.
Each site is fairly level (we had no issue getting level) and has a power pole and picnic table. Sites are sufficiently spaced apart. Water access is conveniently located throughout the campground.
The freeway noise can be heard, but nothing too bad and the lights from the bathroom are as bright as the nearby Home Depot. Our site on the edge (44) was the nearest row to the freeway. I think a location on the other side of the RV area might have a bit less car noise.
Right out our door we had biking (mountain and road), hiking trails, horseback riding (with rental), archery range and several locations to kayak.
The only improvement we would like to see is the after hours access. If you don't make it through the main gate by 9:30, you need to go in a back way for access to the campground. This is a tricky exit off Northbound 470 and requires a few cloverleaf loops to get to. When we arrived at the gate one evening at 9:27 we were not happy to be turned around by the ranger.

It is like a little oasis in the middle of chaos. What is unusual is you can see and hear noise from the interstate. Plus the very bright lights of the nearby Home Depot. I see this as a day use park more than a place to stay. It appears to be heavily used this way. Most of the RVs were older and appeared to have been stationary for a while. I assume from locals who leave the RVs there for weekends. Our site was very unlevel, and we satisfied ourselves with sort of level. Kind of pricey for just electric and no other amenities. It is a long drive from the entrance to the RV sites so be patient :)
