Bayou Segnette State Park

It was ok in general. It was close to New Orleans. The park was full of standing water and bugs. The wooden deck was rotted and unsafe. Due to the standing water, there was no dry place to walk our dogs, except in the road where people did not follow the speed limit. All of the hiking trails are at the day use area, so very inconvenient. It appears on the map that the sites are very close to the water, but they aren’t. To get to the water, you have to go on the other side of the levee wall. We did not put our kayaks in, so cannot attest to the water or boat docks. The park itself it actually located off very busy roads and run down houses. We were uncomfortable leaving our rig because there were some shady people staying in the park.

We wanted a hub close to NOLA at a reasonable price. This state park was perfect, as it was just a 25 min drive to the French Quarter! However, while we were there, it rained A LOT!! The park flooded. The majority of the sites are elevated enough that it wasn't too big of a deal except for the fact that, even after 36 hours of no rain, the water had only gone down by about an inch. They ended up closing the park and kicking everyone out. I did not have an issue with this, in general. The issue was that they waited until 4:00 pm to tell anyone. We were forced to pack up and find a new locations to park all within an hour. We were told that we must leave immediately and could not wait until morning. It was a stressful scramble to find a place to stay for the remainder of our time in NOLA.

With all of this being said, the park gave us a full refund for the remaining nights on our reservation and were very apologetic about the obnoxiously short notice. They kept telling us that they were being "forced to close the park." This gave me the impression that they didn't have much say in it.

The park itself is nice (when it isn't under water) and they even have a wave pool available in the summer. Overall, we enjoyed our time and we will likely come back again.

I think the timing was bad for us. Our site happened to be across from a couple campsites that had many tents with lots of kids in each, so it was a bit noisy. Our campsite had a lot of leftover debris from previous users, obviously with kids because of all the chalk art on the asphalt pad. Orange peals, lime wedges, many cigarette butts, sugar cereal, and vomit all in the grass around our site. We could not let our dogs relax on the site b/c we were afraid of what they would get into. The rest of the park seemed to be maintained fairly well except for the boardwalk decking. The laundry was great. There's just not much to do there. Great for a quick stopover for proximity to the city.

We came here so we could explore New Orleans without having to worry about where to sleep at night.

This was awesome! So peaceful. Our spot had a little elevated wooded spot I assume for putting your tent on. It became perfect as a little deck for our chairs and table!

Bugs were actually not bad for us!

Bathrooms were ok, but showers were hot so that’s all you really need. Laundry also available.

The park itself is ok. Campsites are surrounded by standing water. Bugs are bad! Reservation system is poor. Lots of open campsites available but no way of knowing if you can stay in that site the next night. You have to rush to the office at 7am to secure it. Office lady is not a bit friendly. Close to downtown NO for tourist activities

We really enjoyed this park for its location to everything we wanted to do. Electric and water at site. Dump at entrance to campground. They also have 2 nice laundry facilities in the campground. Suggestions to do other than the normal “French Quarter” stuff: National WWII Museum is amazing! Take a hands on cooking class at New Orleans School of Cooking. It was well worth the money! Chalmette Battlefield is worth a visit also. Just 45 min between New Orleans and Baton Rouge are quite a few plantations that are very educational.

Was planning to stop for a day or to on our travels out west, but stayed for 5. Site was big, electric and water worked fine. Great place to visit New Orleans from. We drove to Algiers and took the passenger ferry across the river right to the French Quarter. At the park we took a couple of walks around and saw several armadillos.

The trash bins are many and are emptied regularly. On the way out is a dump station. As we left mid-week there was no line, but if you leave on Sunday, expect a long wait. WIFI is iffy. Signal strength was great, but bandwidth was poor. Only good to read email.

nice quiet campground, albeit in early January. ok amount of space between spots and while about 1/2 or so dont have fire rings, you can just burn on the ground. kinda swampy so there could be mosquitoes in the summer but not sure. plenty of firewood to collect, nice bird watching, and about 25 minutes drive into the french quarter. would recommend.
