Arrived Friday night and found a spot with fantastic views of the mountains and really close to the river. There were a good amount of bugs, but not overly bothersome. Site was easy to get to, road is pretty well maintained, no washboard to drive through. It's a small camp ground with about maybe 3-4 sites, and while there were people in the other sites, it was quiet and peaceful. There was a good amount of traffic going up to the other campgrounds but noise was minimal given the noise from the river. I had decent cell service with T-Mobile, enough to send pictures to friends and family but not enough to surf the web extensively or quickly. There are trails in the area. This is definitely a great area for fishing, hiking, biking, or any other outdoor activity you want to do. Definitely want to come up here again.

This is a great spot but we just wish we had this campground to ourselves and it would have been perfect. There was a young local with his rv and dog blaring music all night. If we were so tired and if it wasn’t so late we would have went up the road to the next free campground but instead we tried to get as far on the other side of the campground as we could. The campground was cool and a little buggy because there was creek next to the campground and it’s in the middle of the forest, and there was some navigating of the campground needed but nothing an adventurers can’t handle!!!

Thanks to the very helpful Rangers at the Pagosa Springs and Durango Ranger stations we were directed to the Bay City Gulch Campground.
Access to this spot was easy with about one mile of driving on a well maintained dirt road. We arrived to a beautiful sunset over the mountains. It is a small campground and we felt lucky to have it to ourselves. However, if it had been full we could have continued on the dirt road a little further up to several other campgrounds so there was no pressure to find a spot.
Bay City is open all year long, but even in a dry winter with unseasonably warm temperatures, there were traces of snow. In a snowy winter there would definitely be snow here.
The campground has views of snow capped mountains and is placed alongside a seasonal river. The river was mostly dry in February.
The campsites have fire pits, but no tables or bathrooms. The campsites are in two small clusters, so you are close to one or two other campsites. There are only 5 sites total though.
We were able to find a flat spot for the van and it appeared that was true for most of the sites. I would not recommend this campground for any big rigs as access in the campground is fairly tight.
