Basin Campground

We stayed here for one night July 24th in spot 6. There is no cell reception and a lot of shade, so don’t expect connectivity or significant solar charging. Spot 6 backed up to Basin Rim Trail, so plenty of nice hikes right from the campground. We stayed in our roof top tent, but it could have easily accommodated our 30’ trailer.

The road in is a bit twisty in spots and a bit narrow. If you’re towing anything larger than a narrow, single-axle trailer, you would want to come in from the south. The road from the north is pretty tight.

There is a bathroom, but no showers. This is dry-camping, but they do have several potable water spigots around the loop with mighty fine H2O. Although it was 93F for our visit, Basin Pond was a very short walk (maybe 1/8 mile) from our site and provided a good way to cool off before turning in for the night. The pond is bordered by beautiful granite cliffs, so not a bad place for a sunset dip. We would definitely come back and stay for longer.

Site 15 was perfect for us. No other campers visible on the door side of the camper. Nice level spot. You are not all jammed together like in a commercial campground.

Easy access to hiking trails and the Basin Pond was beautiful.

The CG hosts did offer campwood for $7 a bundle in case you needed it.

Bath house was decent. No showers.

Super quiet place with zero road noise except for the occasional CG traffic.

Towed our 25 foot Jayco hybrid here for seven days in July 2016.

Sites were large and very private. There was a bathroom with running water / showers, although we didn’t use them. Very quiet at night and beautiful setting next to the lake / pond. There is a boat launch right next to the campground where you can launch kayaks or similar boats. My kids waded in the water at the boat launch and we were freaked out by the leaches in the water! You could get a larger rig in here, but beware that the road / approach from the North (Gorham NH) is very steep/ narrow. No dump station, and the nearest is in Gorham NH ($10 at the town sewage treatment plant).

We had no cell coverage at all.

Would definitely go again!
