The campground is all first come first served. We arrived on the Tuesday after Labor Day around 11 am and had tons of sites to chose from. We opted for a water and electric site in the K area over looking the hill and although we couldn’t see the water from our rig we could see it from the edge of our site. If you need a full hook up site or have a very large rig the options were a little more limited. Overall in post labor day September there were always some sights available but Friday and Saturday nights were mostly full.
The campground is buy 6 nights and get the 7th free and doesn’t appear to have stay limits, you can also move your site around at any time if you see one you like better open up.
The location is great just 5-10 minutes into the park or bar harbor.
The showers are 25 cents for 5 minutes and get scalding hot and have great pressure. Laundry is $1 to wash and $1 to dry and there were 10-12 of each machine.
Verizon works great with high speeds and no issues. AT&T goes in and out and sometimes is great and sometimes doesn’t work at all. We also had decent luck using the campground WiFi (we try to conserve our limited Verizon data for emergencies).

We absolutely love it here! My wife has been coming here for ~20 years. She and I have been coming here together for the past 6-7 years. It is everything a campground should be. Friendly, clean, well maintained, walkable, big sites PLUS numerous ocean views. This last trip we got to stay “at the top of the hill”. This was especially nice because it overlooked the ocean and these spots are normally all taken with big rigs. During a tough time in the world, this was an unexpected benefit to camping within your own state. We would recommend 1,000 times over to stay here!

Camped in a 35” motorhome. We are self-contained so cannot comment on restrooms/shower facilities. Camped in site #29 – full hookups. Loved it - will return!
Cons –
- This is a first come first served campground. Meaning, it’s incredibly stressful to get a spot at all if you arrive after noon. Even if you find an available spot it may be super unlevel. Some people move daily until they find a spot that works for them.
Pros –
- A positive that comes with a First Come First serve campground is that you can stay as long as you want in your site. We extended our stay twice.
- Very close to Acadia park entrance.
- Office workers are very accommodating and cordial.
- Acadia Park buses pick up at the campground. You can hitch your bike to the front of the bus.
- Good Verizon and T Mobile service
- You can have packages delivered to the office.
- Clean, large laundry room

As others have noted, first-come-first-serve modality, cash or check only (ATM in office, charges $3.25 in addition to home bank charges), $0.25 buys you 5 minutes of shower time (so bring $0.50), washer and dryer are $1.00 per cycle with plenty of machines, clean facilities (they even came by and cleaned out my fire ring!). We arrived at 8:00AM and they let us go ahead and check in. We got a water view as a result of our early arrival, and those sites were full by noon. PLENTY of empty sites in the park for the time of our visit (October 8-10). Park signage noted it would close for the season on October 14th.
There is a dump station up by the water view sites at the back of the park, if you get a site with only water and electric.
Our site was level, peaceful and quiet over our stay. I noted that a number of the occupied sites throughout the park had to create some innovative leveling solutions to make their sites comfortable, so the park could benefit from some gravel and re-engineering of the grades. Bring leveling blocks or lumber in the event you have to settle for a less desirable terrain.
Firewood is sold at the front of the park for $4.00 a bundle.

What we liked about it: access point for LL BEAN shuttle, laundry mat, close to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Staff was very friendly.
We did not like paying for showers or the lack of privacy at the front of the campground where our site was located

It is a large campground with hundreds of sites. Plenty of full hook ups, water and power, and tent sites. We got a water and power site for $40 a night, which is expensive to us, but considering Blackwoods is $30 plus fees for no power it's not a bad deal, probably the cheapest in the area. The sites are close together, but if you want there are some with a little more privacy. They have all amenities here too and its well kept and clean. Showers are 25 cents for 5 minutes and are clean and hot. Laundry is $1 to wash, $1 to dry. It is a pretty campground too with views of the ocean from several sites. Plenty of walking trails for the dog, but a lot of ticks so watch where you go. Cell service is good on Verizon and AT&T, and the free WIFI works good, it does seem to slow down at night though.
As for location, the park entrance is less then 10 minutes away and Bar Harbor about the same. There is also a free shuttle that stops at the campground thru out the day and with a few transfers can get you anywhere in the park. We never did use the shuttle, but it could be a good idea with how busy this area gets. If you don't get up early its hard to find parking for many of the hikes and even to visit Bar Harbor. We had to skip a few hikes due to no parking. If this place was a little cheaper I would give it 5 stars all the way, wish we could stay longer but October 8 is the last day of the season before it closes down for the winter. It seems a lot of places in the area close down around now.

Really loved this Campground. Our site had water and 30 amps. No sewer but the site was relatively close to the showers and restrooms which were kept very clean. I really like the sink outside for doing dishes. This helped keep the gray water to a minimum. Our loop had sites that were very wooded although there are other sites in the open with an ocean view. The staff were very friendly. Sites are kept very clean, no scraps of discarded papers and trash from campers left behind. Each morning a staff member would actually shovel up the ash form our campfire the night before !
A lot of positives with this campground including the FREE bus to many points through out Mt. Desert Island. There is an easy walk via an access road to a BBQ place and ice cream store that's close by. Cell service was good and wifi is available. The location to the park is a quick ride, maybe 3 miles from the visitor's center.
I would say the only negative is the uncertainty of getting a site. They don't take reservations. We arrived on a Wednesday after labor day in the early afternoon and here were a few spots to chose from. The site itself was pretty level were the trailer was but there was a slope where were set up our chairs and outside table. I would suggest driving the campground a bit to chose an ideal site, I was a little nervous about getting a site and I may have chose too quickly. There were many sites w/out hookups too. Would most definitely return.

We stayed at Seawall campground while visiting Acadia National Parks south side and we stayed at this privately owned park to visit the north side of the park. You cannot get reservations it is first come first serve. Unless you are going to be here on some 3 day weekend don’t worry about a spot. We were her 13-16 Jul 2018 and had no problems getting a spot. There were at least 50 sites open. The sites up on the hill have better internet than those in the woods so if you want internet get one of those sites. We had a electric/water site in the woods and the internet was not good. The full hookups are closer together and out in the open. Also while we there we picked over 2 quarts of blueberries with no problem. This park is close to Acadia’s northern part and there are also buses that will drop you off for free all over the park. They have a large laundry room with many machines. You can surf the net while you do laundry or walk out back and pick blueberries.

This is a great place! Some sites have great water views, most have none. Wonderful smoked meat restaurant on site. Laundry is good and cheap. 10 minutes from Acadia. The bus runs all day and pickup/drop off is at the camp site. NO RESERVATIONS is scary but was no big deal (went second week of Sept.).
