“Good For An Overnight & Fun For Scuba Divers”

Reviewed Feb 05, 2016

Overall Rating

Balmorhea (pronounced bal-mor-ay) State Park is in the middle of nowhere Texas. It's great for a stop over, but certainly not a destination unless you're a scuba diver. The natural spring pool maintains a temperature of 72 to 76 degrees year-round, is up to 25 feet deep, and covers 1.75 acres. We saw many early morning scuba divers and... more

We camped here specifically to dive the spring fed pool. We arrived on Sunday and there were a lot of people in the pool, but on Monday it was virtually empty. The campground still had a decent amount of campers, though. We did notice that a lot of people pull in just to spend the night. We had a 50 amp spot with cable, but don't ex... more

“Great overnight stop”

Reviewed Jan 10, 2015

The draw to Balmorhea SP is the huge spring fed pool. We arrived on a very cool November day thus did not test it out. This park is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. So visit with plenty of food and gas. The park offers cable TV for an additional $3 fee. You won't receive any TV via an antenna. We purchased the seasonal pa... more

Making the long drive back from Austin across Texas to El Paso on Interstate 10, we wanted a couple of stops along the way and this place fit the bill. This is actually a really lovely spot. Clear skies, quiet and a nice desert feel. There is a wonderful serenity here. The park includes one of the largest spring fed swimming holes i... more

“A nice stop in West Texas”

Reviewed Dec 08, 2014

Overall Rating

If you're on I-10 in the middle of west Texas, this is a great place to spend the night. It's a bit off the main road but still easy to access. It's big rig friendly with many pull through sites, nice grounds with shade structures at each site and the sites were level. Also good for pets as everything is paved, no dirt or thorns. T... more
