The price above is for an electric site and includes a seniors discount and HST. However, the campground has been without hydro for about a year - so we will receive a partial refund on that amount. That fact is not well advertised - shortly before we arrived, I was checking for fire bans and saw that the hydro was out but it looked like it was a temporary thing. We stayed there during the recent heat wave and it was pretty uncomfortable - generator hours are limited to 10-1 and 5-9 so it wasn’t quite enough to keep the RV cool.
Our site was large and located right near the entrance to the campground which made accessing it very easy. If we could have used the electricity, the post was very close. We would not choose this site again as it was very sandy - tracked everywhere - and there was a fair amount of traffic noise from the park road. A number of sites had significant slopes.
The park offers a lot of activities - both the hiking and canoeing are good, the beaches (3) are nice, there is tubing on the river and the Visitor Centre has great exhibits. WE hiked all of the shorter trails and the Nature Trail which was great. Unfortunately it was too hot to do another of the longer ones. Both Mattawa and North Bay are close if you require any supplies. Mattawa has a great museum. We ventured out of the park to do a little bit of local exploring- both the Eau Claire Gorge and Talon Chutes offer short hikes with great scenery.
The road in was pretty rough and the campgrounds are not well signed. The laundry facilities were clean but expensive ($3 washer and dryer) and are open 24 hrs. There were machines not working when we stayed there.
Cell service varied during the day between 1-3 bars.
Kandt would stay here again
