Off State Route 3 between Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake is Corey's Road. It starts out paved and you'll travel by several camps and nice residence's. The road will turn to dirt but it is nicely maintained. To go to the launch area, turn right at the Axton Landing sign, this will be a one way single lane rough road. It comes out at a parking area and the launch onto the Raquette River. There is a privy close by and a single camp site across from the parking area. On busy days this could be used as parking. There is a single one way lane back to Corey's Road. To get to the campsites go pass the Road to Axton Landing and continue down Corey's Road. Once over the Stoney Creek Bridge there is a campsite #2 on the left. Continue down the road to get to the rest of the campsites (only 10 of them). RV's would be able to traverse this road, watch out for low branches. On this trip, I was truck camping.
There are hiking area's one to Raquette Falls 6 miles round trip, but worth it in the summer. If you do venture to the falls there is lots of swimming areas, don't be surprised if you come across nude sunbathers!! Paddling from Axton Landing up to the falls or down the river to the "Crusher". Which is the boat launch of Route 30/3 outside Tupper Lake. Lots of history in the area. If you camp, this is a strict carry in carry out, leave no trace area.

Driving into the woods you'll have to watch for low hanging branches, roots/holes and bumps here and there. I drove back to where they launch their boats and I'm not so certain that you can get but a class C back in there. I have read the other reviews and I'm not certain if we were staying in the same place because the road in was quite narrow. I signed in and grabbed the site right by the boat launch. Very lovely, tall grass, fire pit with a little wood left over is always a pleasant surprise. Privy was a quick walk down a path off the road coming in.
This was my first night boondocking alone...in my car with my devoted Shelty, Jessi. The week leading up my trip I was viewing bear encounters on YouTube and I had to push through my fear of leaving my windows open 1/4 of the way down to get some cross ventilation... before I thought it best that I roll the windows all up, for fear of a bear smelling food. Next trip, a 12 V fan is going with me. All in all, it was a great night, slept ok...my sleeping partner snores more than I ever thought...kept thinking it might be a bear outside my window. Hahahaha!!

We didn’t stay the night because a storm was coming and we didn’t want to risk the road being impassable in the morning. For RVs and campers, head down Corey, past Axton Landing Road about 1 mile, you will cross a small bridge across Stoney Creek and on the left there is a nice site big enough for an RV, with a fire pit and privy. The site is right off the main road, but there is not a lot of traffic. There is a really nice trail near the site that goes to Raquette Falls, and plenty of space to drop in a kayak.

Firstly, Axton Landing is on Corey's Road and is a launch site on the Raquette River. It also has campsites in a field near the launch. It is very nice - best for camping with friends since the sites are not separated. As you continue down Corey's Road you'll find several sites that can accommodate most any rig. The road is unpaved but well maintained. The sites are not numbered.
I am reviewing a site a little further down Corey's Road. About a mile after the turn-off for Axton Landing you'll cross Stony Creek. Immediately after crossing there is a great site on the left. This is a great place to camp. It is quiet, you can launch your canoe or kayak at the bridge and hiking trails are nearby. There is also a privy in the woods across the road. For hiking you can enjoy the trails that go along the Raquette River - the hike to Raquette Falls is really nice. If you're looking for a more challenging hike the trailhead to the Seward Range is 3-miles further down Corey's Road. Paddling is also awesome here. You can paddle the Raquette River or paddle Stony Creek to Stony Creek Pond. Cell service is weak at best. This is just a great place to spend time!
