“Free lakeside camping! ”

Reviewed May 18, 2018

Overall Rating

We arrived here on Easter weekend to find the shore packed with RVs, tents, and boats. Instead of cramming in with the masses we happily found a spot away from the shore and settled in to enjoy the view. By Monday, the place had cleared out and we enjoyed a very peaceful week.

Not only is it free to camp here (with a national park pass), but there are dumpsters, port-o-lets, a freshwater spigot, and even a dump station (for a fee). The camp host was super helpful and friendly and seemed to genuinely care that we were enjoying our stay.

One note of caution is that it can be VERY windy here. We had to re-position mid-stay to avoid some of the wind.

“Windsurfing area on lake with amenities”

Reviewed Feb 16, 2018

Overall Rating

This is a prime windsurfing area right on Lake Isabella. The campground offers toilets, drinking water, trash cans, and a dump. It is very close to the town of Lake Isabella if you need to get anything. Cell service is great here. There is plenty of room for any size rig to fit here, just be careful of loose sand.

This area is not free, it is $10/day. If you have a America the Beautiful pass it covers the fee and you are allowed to stay 14 days. There is a camp host here and he does a good job keeping an eye on things. The dump is $10 or $5 if you have a National parks pass.
