We were here for two nights and found the site to be concrete and level. Very close to the dunes and the bath house was super clean. Lots of nice paved bike trails. Camp host was very nice also.

Very nice state park. Asphalt sites with considerable room between them in loop E. Good facilities with clean and warm showers. Excellent bike trails for e-bikes and regular bikes with good access to the national park area and national park visitor center. Huge beach. Other than one or two loops, it is dry camping but they have good access to potable water and a dump station with two lanes. We biked through the national park campgrounds and this is just as nice if not better. We liked loop E as the spots seemed a bit farther apart.

Amazing, cool, breezy weekend when it was pretty hot & humid inland. We loved site G197, as it was pretty close to a bathhouse and the beach crossover
2PM check in is strictly enforced. Don’t bother trying to arrive early
Bathhouses were okay, mostly clean but not great showers (poor water pressure & irregular temperature)

This was our second trip, in a little over a month, to the CG, this time a non-electric site H-258, total price was $61 including transaction fee. Utilizing the Senior discount Monday-Thursday nights, it was cheaper than our last 3 night stay on an electric site we had previously stayed, a bargain 😊 Used 2 different bath houses, both were always clean and can vouch for the H loop bath house, the shower has hot water. Something new this time, the staff ran a little tractor and trailer through the loop at about 6pm each evening, selling ice and firewood… being so far away from the entrance where it is sold, this is a very nice service.
And why do we keep going back, the ponies of course… this time we were treated to a foal, baby even laid down in our site and took a short nap while the momma grazed (see photo)

We did not have an issue with bugs. The ponies are not shy and will come into your camp looking for food. And yes, you will see them.
We didn't have luck with getting AT&T service, so in order to work remotely we needed to get off the island. Could barely get emails.
Showers were clean, beaches were empty and sites were paved and level.
If we can get another reservation, we will be back!

We arrived during a nor'easter and left during a rainstorm. In between, we found peace, tranquility and an abundance of wildlife despite the ongoing wind, clouds, and mist. The sites were pristine, bathhouse immaculate, lots of hot water, friendly staff and volunteer hosts. Due to the cool weather and wind there were no bugs. Very well-run campground. We suspect that the busy summer season would likely make for more congestion. But during May, it's the perfect place to get away from it all and unwind.

Our stay… May 2nd thru 5th, 3 nights for $64 including service charge and MD’s Golden age discount for site # G178 (one in the electric/pet loop). First time staying at the State Park. Was impressed with the length of the pad and the ample distance from your neighbor…more than enough room for the ponies to pass thru. Only electric at the site so be sure to fill water at dump station area, located on the opposite side so not to be confused with the non-potable water, neither had a hose, so be prepared. While I never tried the showers, the bath house was always very clean but was a very long walk from our site. The walk to the beach enjoyable, 2 access points for the loop. On the inside turns of this double loop, the sites are setup as pull-thru, the rest are back in and many large RV’s had trouble. Too early in the season for many bugs except flies, be sure to bring bug spray or a swatter. Weather app pin-pointed us on “Campground road” and was able to stream movies (ATT) on iphone. We (and the critters) will be returning, during cool weather of course.

All sites are close to the beach which is only open to the campground people. On July 4th last year we were no others swimming within 100 yards in each direction. No water at sites, electricity only in loop G and I. Did I mention that wild horses walk through the sites regularly?

The Maryland State Park campground is a pure beach camping experience. If you’re looking for privacy, this is not where you want to be. All the sites are close together with nothing but sand and grass in between; and an occasional wild pony which the kids will love seeing. On the plus side the sites nearly dead level, in fact the entire CG is nearly dead level. Come prepared for wind, sand stakes are called for. The bathhouses are up-to-date and well maintained. The Atlantic Ocean is just over the dune a short walk from the campsites; be sure to use the access points and keep the kids off the dunes, they’re much more fragile than they look. Ocean City is a short drive away for supplies; prices reflect the relative remoteness of this barrier island location. For a more forested habitat take the level bike paths over to the Assateague National Wildlife Reserve a few miles further South on the island; there is some excellent bay side birding here. A word to the wise, reserve early (like 12 months early) if you want any hookups as this CG books up quick.
