Only negative was some sketchy people sleeping outside the bathhouse the first day. I noticed them bundled up on a picnic table. 2 hours later they were still there and asked me for a ride ( I didn’t give them one). Hopefully this was a rare occurrence at Arrowhead

I suggest getting here by latlon coordinates if using a dedicated GPS unit. Our GPS led us astray; Apple maps saved the day after we entered the latlon. I suggest getting here by latlon coordinates if using a dedicated GPS unit. Our GPS led us astray; Apple maps saved the day after we entered the latlon. Google Maps prob. would have worked just as well. The USFS gives these directions:
From Troy, take NC 109 north for 10 miles and turn left on Mullinix Road (NC 1154). Follow Mullinix Road for two miles to a “T” intersection. Turn right at “T” onto Forest Road (FR) 544 and travel about two miles and turn left on FR 597. Go 0.6 mile, turn right on FR 597B to the entrance of the campground.
All sites appear to be wooded/shaded. We do not camp in commercial rv parks, which can pack campers in like sardines. If you are used to commercial parks, these sites may seem spacious by comparison. To us Site 30 was small, lumpy, close to other sites, and steep. We could not lower the front enough to level our 21' camper front to back, close enough maybe. If our driveway was long enough to be in the Tour de France, it would be a categorized climb.
RV sites have electricity but no water. If you need water the only place an RV is allowed to fill its fresh tank is at the dump station. Not a problem really, except the large number of speed bumps in the campground loop seems unnecessary.
We decided to shower in the bathhouse to conserve our fresh tank. The men's room smelled strongly of urine, about like old filling station bathrooms. The water temperature was fine. The flow rate varied from one shower head to another. The bathroom has a log of when it was cleaned -- regularly updated. Somebody had circled one of the dates and had written "What a joke".
No burning of anything other than wood is allowed in the fire pit, not a paper towel... nothing.
There is a nearby gun range or firing range. It made plenty of gunfire-type noises at different times. I did not notice any of those sounds at night.
Other than the details above it is a lovely place. There are lots of trails to hike. It is near a large lake. The people camping here seem friendly enough.
Cell signal was weak at our site but was improved using a booster.
The electricity at our site was strong and stable.
Would we come back here or not? I am not sure. Nothing is unpleasant enough to preclude that possibility. It would be fine as a pass-through campground. It is probably a great place if you have a boat. In the end we are enjoying the stay.
If you are planning to stay here and want to take a guess at sites that are more level than others, the outside of the upper loop seems a bit flatter than the inside of the upper loop. That said some of those sites have a strong tilt!

Really nice long trail along the shore of Badin Lake, and circling back around through the forest. It's over 5 miles though, so we planned a route that would get us back with less distance.

This was our first visit to the Arrowhead Campground. This is one of two drive-up campgrounds in the Uwharrie, and the nicer of the two in terms of sites and access. There are dirt roads between Hwy 109 and the campground, but the drive around the campground and the sites are paved. Very nice in an extremely dry environment. Our site was well maintained, and all of them seemed to be. The camp host was wonderful. The sites faced a nice wooded forest. There was a mix of tents and campers - we had our camper. If making reservations for a camper, pay close attention to site length - there are some very short sites. If you are planning to tent camp, bring a good pad and ground cloth - the sites have some big gravel!
Favorite things - easy drive (no mountains), secluded feeling forest with electric. Relatively quiet campground, even though it was full. Nice hikes near the lake (5.6 miles), cute hard surface path around campground (.75 m.)
Negative - some of the sites looked more level at first glance than at second - we saw some interesting leveling attempts. Dirt roads + dry conditions = filthy cars and RVs. (Was not a problem in our campground)
Nice for a weekend get-away.

Very rustic campground in the middle of the woods- only electric sites but big enough for most rigs. They do have a fresh water fill and a dump station. Lots of trails and access to the lake. Its a beautiful park and has a very nice walking trail that is paved. Good mix of rigs and tent campers. Truly in the middle of no where with not much around it as far as eating or shopping. This would not be a place where I would stop if I was just traveling through. The access road is extremely rough, dirt with some gravel. Pot holes. You will find dirt and dust all over your rig.
