We came here because the government shutdown closed the campsites in the National Park and I’m so glad we did. We stopped in Presidio to get the permit and drove about 23 miles on a paved road to get to the campsite. Navigating the campsite area was easy in our sedan but there was not a lot of turnaround room and would be harder in an RV, though you could make it to site 1 or 2. The site was $12 per night (plus $5 daily entrance fee per person or Texas State Park pass).
There was a vault toilet and trash can but no water. We chose a site that was just feet away from the Rio Grande.
The campsite itself did not have a gorgeous view but the drive to it on Farm Road 70 is one of the best I’ve done. It’s also close to Closed Canyon trail, which isn’t short hike in a Canyon.
We hiked in the National Park the next day and would come back to the State Park next time.
Mlb would stay here again

“Park discourages RVs”
noted 4/12/2023
We did not stay here. The Big Bend Ranch State Park administration appears to be discouraging RV camping. They actively enforce an 18 foot limit on vehicle length. The only sites in the park that are available for vehicles over 18 feet (but only up to 30 ft) are 4 sites at La Cuesta Campground that are side by side on an unlevel gravel parking lot adjacent to the highway.
