We arrived on a Friday about 1 p.m. The campground was starting to fill up for the weekend. We got one of the last sites that would have fit our RV. Most of the sites are walk-in tent campsites. We got out and walked around before we committed to driving in, though it turns out, it would have been no problem. You might unhook if you're a class A towing a car, though. The ranger stopped by to let us know a bear had been seen in camp the day before and admitted there was some problem with homeless people and the last camp host just disappeared. They are trying to get a new camp host, so maybe things will improve in the future. There was lots of microtrash around our site and the fire ring was full. There's no grass, so I'm glad we had a carpet to put out on the dirt. The vault toilet looked brand new. Hand pump water. There's a small beach. The boat access is a mile or so away. The lake is pretty quiet, so I'm assuming there's a horsepower limit on it. There was some partying going on until about 3 a.m. and a car alarm went off at 5, so we didn't get much sleep.
We picked this place because it's very convenient to the VASA trailhead, which is about 5 miles away.
We'll be moving to Schenk's Place Trail Camp tomorrow. I hope we sleep tonight.
