2/25-28/2018 Access to this area was just off of Hwy 89A. It starts immediately with a gravel road. The washboard is mild to just moderate. There is a day use area shortly to the right that you can drop your trailer to scout for a site if you care to. The first camp area is .6 mi. from the Hwy on the right. There is space for several rigs and ample area to turn around or drive through, The entry and exits are a bit rutted out but not a problem unless your rig has very low clearance. There are good views of the red rock. The next camp area is 1.2 mi from the Hwy on the left. Washboard is moderate but OK if you go slow. The road is wide and not busy. This site has comfortable room for 3-4 rigs of moderate size (trailers <35’) but no pull through access. If there were several rigs already there it could be a problem turning around with a trailer. The views are better here. The third and last camp area is 1.7 mi from the Hwy on the left. The washboard gets worse with moderate hills. This area would be best for medium sized class C’s or car/tent camping. Views are not as good but it is more secluded. All the sites are pretty clean considering it is free BLM camping. For the most part all sites are fairly level. We stayed 4 nights at the first area. Only 1 other RV for 2 of the days. There were some tent campers that seemed to be local homeless type but they kept to themselves, their dogs were friendly and they caused no problems. There was no Hwy noise and the tent campers were not too loud but you could tell they were there, I would not think twice about staying here again if visiting the Sedona area. Sedona is only about 15 min out and about the same in the opposite direction for Wal-Mart and all that goes with it. I had 3 bars on Verizon and was able to stream Netflicks using iPhone hotspot with no issues.

We camped here last February, and as other reviewers have noted the local rangers were working on shutting down several of the sites people were using for camping. You don't want to go too far down this road with your trailer attached, so if you're scouting to see which spots are still available, unhitch at the trailhead. We didn't take that advice and drove down a super steep hill with no turnouts for over a mile, and when we finally turned around we wound up back in the spot closest to 89A that we could find.

The trailhead has one of the only bathrooms in the area so it was at times a bit busy but the scenery is beautiful. Every morning where the weather was clear we would be greeted by a half dozen or so hot air balloons flying over which is an awesome way to start the day. The gravel road getting here had some bumps but wasn't too bad and it had tons of room for several big rids to camp at once.

When you first come off the road there is a fairly good sized area off to the right. There were maybe 3 good sized rigs and a bunch of van/car/truck camper type of campers. Even if there had been no smaller units there would have only been room for maybe 5 big rigs without being right on top of someone. When we got there it was totally full. Maybe a few hundred yards up the road there were two other slots with average size 5th wheels in them. They were also full so we went further up. I wouldn't suggest it. If you go there and you have anything other than a truck camper I wouldn't go any further than the area near the bottom. The road is extremely rough and just barely wide enough for two vehicles to pass. Big dropoffs on one side and no guardrails. Turning around with any kind of trailer would be impossible. Luckily we found a camping spot where a guy was tenting (and by the way had some of the most awesome views ever) that gave us just enough space to get off the road enough to get ourselves turned around. If not for that we would have had to back down that road. What we should have done and what I would do in the future is utilize a little space just inside the entrance to drop your trailer and scout ahead

We are traveling the country and this was one of our favorite boondocking sites. Only 20 minutes into Sedona and super close to countless hikes and trails. Area does get busy but there is plenty of space. We experienced hot air balloon rides over our rig almost each morning. Not a lot of light pollution so sunsets are spectacular.

The road is pretty bumpy but pretty easily manageable for most RVs and campers. You can find a pretty flat spot to get leveled on without much trouble.
Plenty of space - shouldn't fill up.
We have solar and pretty large tanks so we were good to go for a while until we ran out of water.
Not too far from Cottonwood or Sedona and free beats $30-60 for hook ups!
It was a bit of a bummer that there was scatter trash around - caught in the bushes.
Nice views of the red rocks in the distance. You can hike around and head down to the creek or hang out in the sun. We were greeted with hot air balloons over head one morning.

Folks seem to camp pretty close to their neighbors here, but we managed to find a spot with some privacy. Access was good, cell was good, nice views of the valley. Little trash laying around, but not too bad. Would camp here again when in the Sedona area.

We stayed in the first large pull out area on the left. We had ample room for 3 Airstreams and tow vehicles. If you continue up the hill you will find darling campsites tucked on the right- too small for much more than tents or small truck campers. But you will swoon with feelings of peace and serenity.
Continue further and the road gets more treacherous, but more good spots abound. We would not choose to trailer into this area. Further down you will come to dispersed camping along Oak Creek- beautiful area. 4x4 and tents only. Very sandy and muddy so beware if wet.

Really, when boon docking, all I'm needing is quiet and level, and no drama. This road is just that. There were many folks in the pull outs along this road, everyone seemed courteous and quiet, tidy and respectful.
ALSO important: the 525 road nearby was MUDDY after a rain and we nearly got stuck in it. This road is gravelly, and we betted that if it were to rain, we'd have enough traction to get out. We learned that this is an important consideration :0)
