The second location in is near an oil rig so has constant noise. I’d pass that one up

Road was totally fine, sorry for the last two peeps calling it too washboarded - thought the gravel road was smoother than the highways and made it up doing 45 in the dark easy in my Promaster. AMAZING VIEW. Clean site, adorable rock pathways to ledges. Picnic areas. Somewhere in the top campsites I’ve visited. Loved.

I didn't stay overnight as I had to hit the road early in the morning and I didn't want to start my day being bounced around by the washboard roads. I wouldn't say the roads are impassable by any sort of vehicle, just uncomfortable. I didn't drive clear out to the camping area but I did get to the 3rd overlook (Castle Rock). At that overlook there was a nice vault toilet and a handful of well spaced covered picnic areas. If you don't want to drive clear out to the camping area you'd probably be fine spending a night here. If you're just looking for a place to spend a few hours before hitting the road, save yourself the trouble of traversing the washboard and stay at the first few overlooks as the view is relatively the same no matter how far out you go. I would camp here if I was planning on spending a few days, otherwise IMO it's not worth the drive.

Yes, I know I know...it's free BLM land, but holy cow the roads for the first 2.5 miles were really bad (worried about our truck and camper bad). Thankfully, after that, there were normal rough roads (uneven, divets, pothole-type areas, slick mud-it rained). The campsite is beautiful, and I'm happy we stayed the 5 days....just dreaded the drive out!
ALSO- there were only 3 sites that our 31ft 5th wheel could fit in, all others were for cars/trucks/teeny tiny campers. Thankfully, there was a spot open for us.

We arrived at sunset after two previous apots did not work out between Cuba and Bloomfield and only went as far as the first parking area off the road. Leveling with great view down into the canyon. Only stayed one night.

We were joined by one other camper and had a wonderful view as well as an awesome sunset! Follow the signs for the turn off of State Route 550 as our GPS told us to continue another mile before turning. The gravel road was in good condition with not a lot of washboard. Definitely worth the effort!

There were a few other tent campers already set up when we arrived. Rather remote but offered picnic tables and fire pits at the spot we pulled into about 3 in from the entrance. Perfect for tent or truck camping but a bit small for any type of trailer. Had a wonderfully cool clear stay.
