Pull-through 50 amp FHU. Site #08
THE GOOD:
Staff: Very friendly staff!
Sites: There is more grassy spots than photos online make it seem, which is nice!
Location: minutes from gas and lots of stuff on Route 66. Cadillac Ranch is 18 min away.
Cell: Verizon is decent. AT&T is slightly better.
Field area: Large grass area/field in the middle of the campground.
THE BAD:
Nothing of note
WORTH NOTING (not good or terrible)
You feel like you are driving into a neighborhood and may think you took the wrong turn but it's right there.
Train noise is no big deal at all. The other reviews about the train are a bit dramatic in their description.

We arrived late, and everything was like every KOA we have stayed at before. The front was organized, and night time check in looked very clean as much as I could see at night. Our sites (3 of them) were great, the grass was short, and they were very level. Showers were excellent. However, this location is very close to a warehouse/industrial area, and the airport that said... trains run all night in the distance, blowing their horns some much loader/closer than others. If there is a life flight, it Flys directly overhead. Great for a night but not a lot of sleep.

This make it impossible to get warm water to wash your face, etc. This makes them almost useless. The chance that someone might leave the faucets open shouldn't be the reason you provide sub standard amenities to your guests.

The location is conveniently within a couple of miles of I-40 but far enough away that you don't have any interstate noise. There is an airport nearby, but we didn't find the noise frequent or obtrusive. The team that works here is very friendly and accommodating. The sites were level, the power was clean, and the water pressure was good. Laundry facilities (coin-operated) were clean and open 24 hours due to being behind a code-locked door, which is super convenient.
We had planned to stop over for two nights to visit Palo Duro Canyon and other sites in the area, but ended up booking a third night due to some work needs and had no hesitation extending our stay because it was such a nice little campground. It's quite wide open, so there is not much privacy, but this is a KOA Journey, so it's designed to be more for people passing through rather than a destination. Remember that Amarillo is often quite windy, so if you're staying here when it's hot, you may not be able to use your awnings.
Overall, though, a spot we'll put on our list for when we're passing through the area again.

At least 5 trains roll by overnight with air horns as they approach road crossings. You will get no sleep here.

Stayed here to rest up and wait out a cold front moving through. Very dry, dusty, and hot. Only small trees so it has future potential. Our rig very basic with no water or sewer needs. Nice hosts!

We're aviation nerds so it was exciting for us to watch them maneuver. The spots are very close together and basically dirt spots. Some back in spots are so close that we saw a fifth wheel have to move spots because they could not get it backed in. This is a great place for a one night stopover if you need something near Amarillo.

A little out of town, but far enough away from the highway you don't hear any road noise. Occasionally you can hear a train in the distance, but if you are in your trailer I doubt you would hear anything, especially if the AC is going.
