Overall Rating
We enjoyed our stay here. It was off season and we had the place to ourselves. The big wildfire came close, but thankfully did not burn into the campground. We enjoyed the big trees, quiet shade and walking to the boat launch to let our dogs swim. Bathrooms and water on site. Cell service was weak, but usable.

This has turned out to be a fantastic campsite. We are working from our van, and this site provides us with the following things. - Cell service for Verizon and AT&T - A place to workout (we are CrossFitters) - 3 minute walk to Lake - 1 minute walk to toilet - Running trails *My Verizon service says 3 our of 4 bars of LTE, b... more
This has turned out to be a fantastic campsite. We are working from our van, and this site provides us with the following things.
- Cell service for Verizon and AT&T
- A place to workout (we are CrossFitters)
- 3 minute walk to Lake
- 1 minute walk to toilet
- Running trails
*My Verizon service says 3 our of 4 bars of LTE, but I'm getting less than 1 mb/second down. AT&T is getting up to 15 mb/second down. I'm talking to Verizon about why this is, but their customer service has been horrible!

During the off season Almanor North is open for dispersed camping (the rest are closed and all cost $$ during the regular season). During the off season Almanor North is open for dispersed camping (the rest are closed and all cost $$ during the regular season). So many spots to choose from ranging from full sun to hidden in the woods. All felt private. Great recreational trail around the park. Quick walk to the lake. We walked around the other campgrounds (south, east, legacy) all were of equal quality. Fair warning you are near the water so...mosquitoes. Chester is a quick drive down the road and has everything you need. Stop at The Ranch House for a meal!
