Great location with spectacular wildflowers enroute. However, the campground is CLOSED! Major winds hit the area recently and trees and big limbs are down throughout. Forest Service has a chain blocking the entrance. We spent last night - 04/21/23 - parked in front of the chain.

We stayed here in April, 2019 - absolutely loved it! The running creek was a pleasant surprise (especially for our old Lab - sadly this was her last camping trip...) and we had baby owls in the trees above us! We had the Adventure Pass, so camping was free. The sites are just randomly spread out amongst the oak trees - just park where you want and where you can get level & not hit a tree branch. Extremely quiet and peaceful here. Not much signage on the way in - watch for the one hairpin turn to the right - small sign there - follow it around and suddenly you come out of cow & oil fields into a little oak grove.

Lots of shade trees with a little creek and some nice hiking trails. Weekends are busy with local groups but everyone was quiet and respectful. With my solar I needed to catch the sun between the trees during the day. No cell service but a mile up the road on the ridge was a pullout with good reception. The six mile road in is paved and although one hairpin curve is accessible for big rigs. Beautiful scenery all the way up.
