Its 4 stars not 5, not sure why Campendium is changing my review to 5.
It's a nice campground where half of the sites are on the river. Lush vegetarion, many shades of green, pretty scenery. Sites are too close together for my taste, I disperse camp and don't stay in most campgrounds except very desolate ones. This site is moderately popular, proximity of Mt Shasta, hwy 89, McCloud river affect its popularity. It had visitors even off season on quite a cold and rainy day on a weekday. Easy paved road to the site also contributes to popularity, so I didn't stay. I collected some trash along this road and side road. The worst is that someone had put a bunch of used toilet paper outside the toilet which was open, right next to the campsite, why didnt they go to the toilet several steps away? Disgusting trash. Don't blame when this camp gets shut down! Seems like city ills and people who do not belong outdoors made it to this semi remote corner of California. Again, this will be shut down if you keep polluting the river. Also picked up toilet paper even in various dispersed sites I stayed at in NE CA, at every single one of them. These ones belong in jail. I guess soon we will have cameras at all campsites, dont see other solution. Please record plates and report everyone who trashed these forests.
Regarding cell coverage, even if it shows 1 bar mostly, there is no any kind of connectivity, might be able to check weather occasionally thats it. Some of the sites require some clearance. Not a place for most RVs, you cant get anything big there, might get a small RV into 3 of the sites. Non-motorizerd trail from campground, it goes all the way to the Falls along the river.

“Snow blocking the road to the campground”
Reviewed 2/12/2021
We had planned to stay here on 02/11/2021.
When we turned down Stout road, we found that it was covered in about a foot of snow that had not been plowed.
Luckily, we were able to stay at the Vista Point about 4 miles West.
Just a warning to have an alternate plan.

BEAUTIFUL place, but locals will come in and play horrible music and a lot of screaming. This place goes to hell on the weekends.

Nice dispersed sites, maybe 10 total. Only one spot for small trailers, by the bridge. Very popular, lots of people driving in during evening, but all spots taken by then (on a Tuesday!). Fire pit, picnic tables, firewood pile, 1 vault toilet.

WOW!! Amazing location. Easy access < 1 mile off the highway on a nicely paved road. Sites are in the trees next to a nice flowing river. Amazing view, location and very quiet. Hard to believe it was free. I'd stay here for an extended period if time allowed.
