Aerie Crag RV Campground

I decided to venture to the June Lakes area for a quick mid-week getaway, being July all the campgrounds were full, was prepared to boondock but I happened upon the Aerie Crag RV only campsite. It’s a paved parking lot, there are large parallel spaces marked out along one side and regular car sized spaces on the creek side of the lot, and you can take up as many of the car spaces as needed for your rig! Some folks had been camping there for the week. The place is pretty quiet, mostly older folks, the views are great and the small creek is beautiful. I would stay here again, the only downside is no campfires.

This camping spot was a happy surprise when we found it after unsuccessfully trying to snag a site at four June Lake area campgrounds, and a friendly camp host told us to check it out. It is signed at the entrance as Aerie Crag Day Use area, but upon entering, you discover that camping is allowed for RVs (no tents & no fires). It is basically a parking lot with a few picnic tables scattered about, but good scenery abounds, and it was surprisingly little used for camping.... we almost had the place to ourselves most nights. During the day there was a steady flow of fishing and pit stop folks coming & going, but it’s quiet and peaceful in the evenings. Speaking of potty— the one we used was immaculately clean and had a real flush toilet. Compendium indicates that this is an overflow site and only open for camping when other campgrounds in the area are full, but I think this is open to camping all the time. We only had enough Verizon cell to text; fluctuated between one and two bars. I gave it 4 stars because although it is basically a parking lot, it was a really nice parking lot!
