Abilene State Park Campground

The rate is with the annual Texas State Park pass ($70). I booked at the wagon circle to get an open sky for our Dish satellite and Verizon was 2 bars only with WeBoost. This was a nice area but loud road noise all the time. On the weekend when a large group came in to numerous sites for a big party if became very loud. I'm happy for them but noisy! The sites are level with water and electric. In the village of Buffalo Gap there is the "Historical town" and a "flea market". The park is large and has walking trails throughout.

We stayed here for 1 night September 2022 while traveling across big wide Texas. We did not have time to visit the lake or pool, but found the Brushy Trail Campground to be clean & pleasant with good spacing between sites. The shower house/ restrooms are VERY new, well designed, & spotlessly clean! This seems like a great state park for first time campers, especially those with children. There are several short, easy little trails that kids would enjoy. It's located way out in the middle of nowhere (which is wonderful!) The area with the yurts looked nicely developed and like they would be a great option for an outdoor experience for those without camping equipment. This is definitely a refreshing alternative for RV travelers tired of all those gravel parking lots called "campgrounds".

We stayed for one night. The price reflects a two nights reservation with the Texas State Parks Pass.

The access road in was in good shape and the site was very long and level. No issues backing in. We had a 30 amp water/electric site. No issues with wiring or voltage.

No trash to speak of. There was a modest amount of road noise depending on the time of day.

ATT speeds were extremely fast at 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload with a roof mounted Pepwave antenna. TMobile wasnt usable for most purposes at 5 mbps/0.15mbps respectively.

We are here at site #83. The only complaint I have is that there’s kind of a steep incline before getting to the level pad. It was difficult backing the trailer up onto the pad. But once we got it situated, it was perfectly level and it’s a very nice site. But next time I’ll try to get a site without the incline. Nice park though. Very wooded. We’ve seen several groups of deer. Looking forward to trying out some of the trails. Good cell service with AT&T.

Can’t truly give a day light report to this park. We got there at 9:00 pm and just found our site after detours due to I would only guess of road issues or fallen trees. Found our site and just backed up the Bushwhacker Plus and hook shore power and water. Had an experience with honey bees buzzing all around us while hooking up. Some bees managed to get inside the camper. So we spend about 40 minutes trying to get them out. Managed to take some pics early morning of the stars and campsite. Stopped by the old water tower and swimming area to take a pic. Lost my camper keys somewhere. My wife locked the camper with her set so I didn’t notice my keys missing till we were heading out of the park. Went back to our campsite and retraced our steps but couldn’t find the keys. Three days later we called the state park and someone had turned them in. The keys were found at the water tower area. Thank you to the person that found them and turned them into the ranger. Lots of thanks to the ranger that mailed them to us. We need to comeback and stay longer here. It seems to be a very beautiful park with plenty of trees.

This was a first night stopover and was selected primarily for its location (which is a bit off the main highway) and the good reviews. Made reservation on line easily and price was reasonable, mid twenties but don’t recall exactly.

Appears some sites are unavailable for social distancing reasons. Sites are well spaced and we shared our cul de sac with only one other party. Sites are heavily wooded, wildlife abundant. Power worked well (50 amp) but the hose bib’s threads were stripped and could not hook up without unacceptable water leakage. Did not use the dump station.

Would gladly camp here again.
