AB Camping & RV Park

{Dates Stayed: April 17-18, 2023} One of those 'diamonds in the rough', family owned, great place for a layover. Unfortunately we only stayed one night, pull-through, gravel sites & drives. The A.B. BBQ is on site and we dined in but take-out is also offered. Menu is Pulled Pork, Beef Brisket, Baby Back Ribs & Chicken;{now hungry just thinking & writing about it and it's been a year since we stayed!}. The Restaurant is only open April-Sept from 4pm to 8pm. The site we stayed at was across a gravel road, not too busy. Our row was 30amp only but not a problem as we were only there overnight. The second Laundry & Restroom in our section was closed for repairs, the functioning one is up by the office. The staff is very accommodating and very pleasant. Lots of rules, but needed these days; check-out is 10:30AM not 11 like most, but can be modified. They have propane on premises. They offer Good Sam, AAA & Military Discounts.

We reserved a site in advance, just needed a quick overnight place to stay. Conveniently located close to I-25 in a nice green area. The BBQ restaurant on site was extremely good, and a nice surprise. The site we had was electric only. Nice grounds, and 2 dog runs. Only complaint is the restroom. Toilets were loose, and everything was a bit “grungy”. The dump station did not have any working water spigots for rinsing. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Convenient from I25 but without the noise. Very clean park. Great BBQ restaurant on site! Gravel sites and roads. Adjacent gravel city streets with noisy traffic. Plenty of room to drive thru with toad connected. Some sites close together (don’t have space for a picnic table). Dog park (2) are very small. Great grassy areas for dog walking.

The park was easy to find. It is located not far from I 25 nicely sheltered behind a hill from the west winds . There is pavement all the way until you arrive at the park. Signage is adequate. Check in was very simple as the office was not open. We called the number posted on the office door and the transaction was completed by remote.. The rules are fairly basic. The interior roads are gravel and in good condition.

Our site, G8, was a gravel base pull through that was long enough for our Coach and Towed. Services (30/50 amp, water and sewer only) were to the left side. Distancing is not bad for an urban park. Each site has a table on a concrete patio but NO fire pit. Our site was flat and even. Overall the park was hard to judge considering it was still winter. It appeared that the sites were to have a grassy partition but it looked like mostly just dirt to us.

The park included wifi worked well for our needs. We did not stream. There is no cable TV but we did find OTA channels. Satellite might be difficult. We did not use the washrooms or showers but we checked and found them clean.

In season, there is a BBQ joint on site but other than that, there are no restaurants or stores within easy walking distance but just a short drive away you can find food, shopping and convenience stores. We found this park to be an okay overnighter. We paid $52.00 per night (inc GS discount) and we feel we received fair value. We will be back if in the area again.

AB Campground is an easy couple miles off of I80 and I25 and only a couple miles into old-town Cheyenne. We lucked out with site S1 which is in the back section, away from the road and on the end. It feels spacious and is very quiet. After an easy check-in, we enjoyed great BBQ at the on-site restaurant. I had read mixed reviews of AB Campground, but we have found it a perfectly fine place to stay while exploring this area.
